About this listen

Rule number one: Straight military men will always be straight, no matter how much you wish otherwise.

Rule number two: Being a billionaire won’t change that (probably).

Rule number three: The whole thing between you when you were in high school? It was only fantasy.

Rule number four: One-sided fantasy.

Rule number five: God, how great would it be if it was a two-sided fantasy?

Rule number six: Okay, getting off track.

Rule number seven: Hiring your hot high school crush is totally okay.

Rule number eight: If you don’t let your feelings get in the way, everything will be fine.

Marshall Lloyd is about to be very not fine. Not only is his high school crush back in his life, but he’s matured into a gruff, brooding, drop-dead gorgeous specimen of a man who makes Marshall’s wet dreams seem about as exciting as drying paint.

The only problem? Fox Fraser, the individual in question, is straight.

Super straight.

The kind of straight that would make a ruler jealous.

But if what Marshall sees when he looks in Fox’s eyes is to be believed, he’s broken, too. There are scars inside of him that no one notices. No one but Marshall. It’s not wrong to want to help him, is it? To hire him to take care of things around the house so he can get back on his feet? It’s just work. Work that leads to lingering looks. To prolonged touches. To...mmph.

It’s better not to think about it.

Marshall’s fantasies aren’t real. A guy like Fox would never pin him to a wall and do things to him like that.

Maybe.

Probably.

Right?

After the Crash is the first book in the Small Town Hearts series, which features heroes scattered across the rural United States who find love where they’re least expecting it. In addition to explosive chemistry, you can expect sneezing bushes, tea that tastes like hay, and a wet wrestling match that's just boys having fun, Mom.

We love those who never give up on us

This is the first gay romance book I have listened to that didn't involve the drama of a family accepting their son's sexual choice and the main character realizing he loves for how someone makes him feel no matter what gender they are. It was such a nice change!!

Amazing and Beautiful

After the Crash is a beautiful contemporary romance about a discharged Airman suffering with PTSD and a rich businessman readjusting to small town life. Fox has been through a traumatic experience while deployed, and now medically retired from the Air Force, he’s attempting to move forward. But he can’t. He’s stuck in rut made worse by his debilitating PTSD, and he has no real way forward. And then comes Marshall. Wonderful, cheerful Marshall who knows exactly what to do when he finds Fox suffering a PTSD episode. Kind and sweet Marshall who gives Fox a job, a home, and his heart. The entire book just made me melt, and I could not get enough.

I really didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this book. A lot of books that use military members as main characters really seem to lack an authenticity and the military background just seems to be a cool detail the author uses to explain away all kinds of skills and talents the character has. But Emma Alcott actually brought to life a character who felt like a real person. Fox felt like he could have served with me, and his PTSD episodes were researched and well written. To me that shows how talented and skillful a writer Emma Alcott is.

The book has a lot of romance, but it also has some dramatic and tense moments. I was completely enraptured with the book and finished it within one day. And once it was done I wanted more. I could hardly believe it was over.

The audiobook was narrated by J.F. Harding who does a great job throughout the book. His voice is smooth and enjoyable to listen to, and he keeps all his characters distinct and easy to identify. The audiobook production was well done and overall I highly enjoyed my listening experience.

Wonderful romance

First off let me say there’s just not enough M/M romance book’s narrated by JF Harding. Wow what a duo. Harding/Alcott. This book is truly a keeper. I haven’t heard the others in the series. I’m sure they’ll be good but with out Harding they just won’t be GREAT!!!! The other narrator that doesn’t get much M/M romance time is jack DuPont. Put those two together and you have incredible books. I loved this book and please don’t be afraid to purchase it. Totally worth it!!!!!!!!

Fox and Marshall

Having Fox and Marshall being brought to us live was great. The narrator was new to me, and he did an awesome job. Both voices were perfect and I liked that you could tell the differences in their voices.

Love the story

I love this book so much that I own it in all of its forms. I would personally prefer more differences between the various character voices. Mr. Harding's voice is nice to listen too, but a little more variation would help.

You should definitely check out this story.

Glad I didn't pass this one up

I almost passed this up because one of the reviews referred to an almost-dub-con scene. Maybe there was an edit or something that removed it, because I never found it in the story. This is the 1st book I've read by this author and I found it very enjoyable. Low angst, good backstory, reasonable, realistic, and well paced. The narrator is one of my favorites so this was 5-star all the way.
