About this listen

What does it mean to be an adult in a relationship? How can you stop unproductive patterns and adopt ways of relating that bring you closer together? If you want to be an accountant, you learn the profession in school. If you want to get better at a sport, you work with a coach. If you want to be in a relationship, you . . . well, you're supposed to just jump in and give it your best shot.

Most of us never learned what it means to be an adult in a relationship. We brought our conditioned ways of interacting into a partnership only to find our automated responses aren't effective in building intimacy. To be successful in building trust and connection, you'll have to learn new skills. By using these new relationship skills, you'll outgrow your old, ineffective patterns.

In Adult Relationship Skills, you'll learn:

-what does and does not create connection between two people

-that trust doesn’t come automatically, it has to be built (and how to build it)

-to use your voice instead of being passive

-how to make up effectively so you can move forward from hurts

-to truly listen instead of half listening and half thinking of your response

-a method for sorting out misunderstandings

Begin developing more trust and connection with your partner today.

I could relate to his stories.

The ideas & rules are so simple & obvious... but why didn't I ever think of them on my own, over the 52 yrs that I've been alive. Because no one else knew how to be a better adult & they couldn't pass down lessons or examples that they didn't know.
I listened to the book THREE TIMES & took notes.

Narrator/Method actor heartwrenching profound voice

It's harder to learn when everything is delivered as emotional fatigue. Essentially, this is the exact opposite of an 8-bit robot voice speaking the same content.

ONCE AGAIN, WISE BEYOND HIS YEARS!

Nic has done it again! He has schooled me in the art form of adult relationships! He talks about listening and that there are three different forms of listening. He talks about supporting partners who have been through childhood trauma and how to express oneself if I am that partner. He discusses the importance of taking the time to pause and ask oneself are my actions and emotions occurring in the now or as a result of conditioning in the past? He talks about not taking the other for granted and remembering why I have entered into relationships. He talks about communication and that it cannot be one-sided– equal, listening, and hearing, he talked about patients and to understand what matters to your partner and what can activate them. Respect. And one of the greatest gifts I received from the book was to ask clarifying questions when I don’t understand from where my partner is coming. This book is life altering and possibly life-saving. I have noticed a change in how I listen, react, and respond to friends and family, clients and the rest of the world!A MUST READ!
