About this listen

Hail Mary, Sports Widows! Get off the bench and into the game with a relationship kick-off that will lead you straight into the end zone. In less than an hour, you can learn all the football basics you need to help you connect with your favorite guy.

Join in the fun as Paula Duffy, lifelong sports enthusiast and founder of Incidental Contact, a sports learning site for women, entertains you with the basic rules of the game, information on the players and what they do, and common terms used by announcers, as well as how to use what you've learned to get and keep a guy's attention as you "Talk Sports".

A firm believer that a little sports knowledge can go a long way, Duffy says, "Sports talk is the most easily learned and best way to break the ice in any context...at home, in business, or at play. I am here to debunk the myth that men don't like to talk. Men do like to talk...sports."

So ladies, your fumbling days are over. It's time to move out of the stands and onto the playing field, to grab that tight end you want to meet, or the boyfriend or husband you want to know better.

Be sure to download the Powder Room Power Card cheat sheet, for when there's a break in the action.©2006 Incidental Contact LLC (P)2006 Gildan Media Corp

Good to know

It gave me exactly what I needed: some basics and ability to understand a little football language!

OK, But..

Well, its a lighthearted happy book. But, if you already know theres 4 downs, 10 yds to 4 downs, field goal, touchdown, referees wear black & white striped shirts & blow a whistle, a wide receiver catches passes (not runs it), punting, you don't need this book.

Really really basic!

Would be helpful only if you are from another country than USA (or planet).

The book does not go into player positions, or any even simple strategies. I was looking to understand why players line up like they do (ie: offensive & defensive plays), because I cannot tell a shotgun lineup from a blitz lineup.

I found a better book for learning football is "Football for Dummies".

Much Too Simplified

What did you like best about A Woman's Guide to Football? What did you like least?

I felt like I was being taught how to tie my shoes.

What was most disappointing about Paula Duffy’s story?

This book was just took basic for those who have heard of the game of football.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Paula Duffy?

No. The performance was like listening to clipped or snippits crudely assembled into a "how to" book or a DIY picture book. It just wasn't great.

Any additional comments?

If you've never seen a game of football or have never even heard of the game of football--in other words, you've lived your life buried under a rock that is locked in a closet, then this is your go-to book on the basics of football.

FOOTBALL!!

I liked how learning the game of football was laid out for me and seems easier to understand when the reader explains.

author didn't "dumb it down" rather she explained things clearly

I am familiar with the terms she used because l have heard them, but never has it really been explained to me

Horribly condescending

This book made me so angry. I was only hoping to learn about various penalties and make sure some assumptions I made were correct. This woman only explains the game in the context of using sports knowledge to become appealing to guys. It's insulting. She makes the assumption that the reader is an imbecile. Did you really need to clarify that the team with he most points at the end of the game wins? At one point she tells the reader to "suck it up" and learn the stuff she is telling you, and then she proceeds to define the phrase "suck it up."
