About this listen

Wit, wisdom, and revelations from 60 years of life on the road.

Driving one highway after another at sunrise, winding through the mountainside, hearing the call to rise of the roosters, or simply exchanging "fishing stories" with the other guys at the truck stops. Like that one about the trucker who stopped along the highway and helped a little old lady who had a flat tire. By the time the trucker had told his tale a dozen times, the simple tire change story turned into one where an old lady was accompanied by her gorgeous, blond, and 21-year-old granddaughter - you know how that ends. Imagine the story traded from one driver to the next. Each time, a more outrageous yarn is spun.

They say that only truck drivers experience the true grandeur and landscape of America. In A Trucker's Tale, Ed Miller gives an inside look at the allure of the work and the colorful characters who haul our goods on the open road. He shares what it was like to grow up in a trucking family, his experience as an equipment officer in Vietnam, and the trials and tribulations of life as a trucker. His tales are often funny, sometimes sad, cringeworthy, or unbelievable. Many are the results of what he calls "just plain stupidity." Together they paint a compelling portrait of a vibrant but little-known industry, and reveal why he just kept on truckin'.

This is wonderful story !

I am a truck driver and loved it. I would have enjoyed it anyway, with his childhood, Vietnam and back to personal chapters of life stories.

Narrator voice relaxing but not boring.

Masterpiece

This is a masterpiece. The stories, lessons, and history listed here had given me a new respect for the trucking community and the work they do. This is one of the few books I will listen to again on Audible, and thank the author for recounting the stories so people like me could hear them. A true masterpiece.

Very interesting

Not only is the story interesting, but the narration is great! Good enough to keep you listening, but not so much that it’s not still smooth and soothing.

I already listened to the whole thing, but now my Husband loves it. We listen to it each night before bed, usually drifting off to sleep and guess where to start back the next night.

I never thought a story about a trucker would keep me so engaged, but it really does. Truthful about the life (and his life) without being raunchy or over-played. Highly recommend!

charming and thoughtful

Loved it. I am a new driver and have grown to love the stories about experienced drivers and their adventures. I am certain that even if you don't drive or know very little about the industry, that you would still appreciate the humor and the charm of these stories.

Great Info

This book gave me insight on what it requires to be a trucker. The ups & downs. I learned how challenging this job is and thankful for their continuing job of moving products.

A trucker talking to a trucker

What a wonderful book! My only issue is; It ended. After thirty years, I too, have some stores. I laughed, she's tears and laughed at those who got "theirs" in the end. The narrator is a southing voice, and sounds like an old "hand".

A trucker myself, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It really made the miles fly by. How about a sequel??
