Publisher's summary

Wit, wisdom, and revelations from 60 years of life on the road.

Driving one highway after another at sunrise, winding through the mountainside, hearing the call to rise of the roosters, or simply exchanging "fishing stories" with the other guys at the truck stops. Like that one about the trucker who stopped along the highway and helped a little old lady who had a flat tire. By the time the trucker had told his tale a dozen times, the simple tire change story turned into one where an old lady was accompanied by her gorgeous, blond, and 21-year-old granddaughter - you know how that ends. Imagine the story traded from one driver to the next. Each time, a more outrageous yarn is spun.

They say that only truck drivers experience the true grandeur and landscape of America. In A Trucker's Tale, Ed Miller gives an inside look at the allure of the work and the colorful characters who haul our goods on the open road. He shares what it was like to grow up in a trucking family, his experience as an equipment officer in Vietnam, and the trials and tribulations of life as a trucker. His tales are often funny, sometimes sad, cringeworthy, or unbelievable. Many are the results of what he calls "just plain stupidity." Together they paint a compelling portrait of a vibrant but little-known industry, and reveal why he just kept on truckin'.

A trucker talking to a trucker

What a wonderful book! My only issue is; It ended. After thirty years, I too, have some stores. I laughed, she's tears and laughed at those who got "theirs" in the end. The narrator is a southing voice, and sounds like an old "hand".

This definitely kept my attention!

This is not a title that I would have chosen without having had it offered for a one day special price. I have to say, I’m really quite delighted that I took the time to listen to it. Interesting stories, and I actually learned a whole lot about the history and practice of trucking. The reader performed the story brilliantly, his voice was perfect! There were many, very amusing, anecdotes, and a number of times I truly laughed out loud at some of the stories. I also learned a lot about safety and courtesy on the roadways. Well worth the time, excellent!

An entertaining listen.

A trucker myself, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It really made the miles fly by. How about a sequel??

Insightful perspective from a four wheeler

I don’t normally find the topic of truck drivers appealing as I share the road with them 75% of my work life. Up to now I’ve only been frustrated with truckers bottlenecking our interstates, swerving while distracted in their cell phones or cutting in front of me to pass another trucker. This was an interesting book and I know some of my ill perceived thoughts of the truckers I share roadways will undoubted improve. Safe travels to all.

Eye Opener for Four-Wheel-Driver into the Trucker's World

At first, I was looking for a boring book to help me sleep; however, this book was very interesting and informative about a trucker's life stories from his childhood to his retirement. I learned a lot and gain the understanding and appreciation for truck drivers.

A cute, relevant story about a life spent driving

Even a four-wheeler ought to appreciate the candor and wisdom this author shares about a life spent on the road, the things we see, and the experiences we have. Very solid representation of the facts, told from a personal perspective across a few different job types.

Interesting

My husband is an owner/operator since 1982. We’ve been married since 1986. This book is very detailed In maintenance, loading and destination. If you know trucking, you can picture every detail. If you don’t, you’ll want to learn.
