Would Make a Good Movie!

I just finished reading A Texan Goes to Nirvana. What a clever plot! Should be made into a movie.

Wildly entertaining and laugh out loud

This is a crazy tale written and told by a gut-busting funny Texan, Kelly Jackson. The story itself is worthy but Jackson's narration brings it to life so we feel like we are there experiencing it all with her. The reading is dramatic and lively, but also comic and artistic. Ms. Jackson is a huge talent who does it all.

An unusual retreat

A Texan going to a yoga retreat is an unusual treat. You enjoy the characters and the laugh out loud moments that come your way. You, don't even mind the occasional curse word. Okay...maybe there's a few more than required, but technically it worked for the scenes. The narrator/author did a terrific job.It had a lot of quirky characters and you rooted for Wendy to find her very own Nirvana. So when you get a chance pick up a copy and enjoy.

A Texan Goes to Nirvana

A Texan Goes to Nirvana: Hairy Arm...I mean Hari Ommmmm! is one hilarious book. I laughed so hard throughout listening to the audiobook. It was a major plus having the author Kelly Jackson narrating her own book. I was cracking up listening to her read the book the way she intended to be read.
I give A Texan Goes to Nirvana: Hairy Arm...I mean Hari Ommmmm! five stars. I recommend it for readers who love to read laugh out loud and quirky humor.
I received the audio version of this book from the author. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

A Yoga Catastrophe

In the mood for a quick read that will have you chortling along the way? A Texan Goes to Nirvana just may be what you’re looking for, especially if you’re going for a healthy (or unhealthy, as the case may be) dose of snark. Now, I am duty-bound to warn you that you’ll probably be kind of offended if ashrams are your thing because Ms. Jackson makes this particular one seem like the very last place a yoga lover might want to be but, I confess, I liked this a lot. I wonder if that might be because I will never set foot in a month-long grown-up camp with bad food and loads of rules but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy someone else’s dismay 😉

Wendy is a three-time loser at marriage and she’s addicted to the amenities that a financially comfortable life gives her but she’s decided that she wants to be a yoga teacher. That requires being certified, hence her trip to the backwoods of Kentucky so she can tough it out to get the necessary training before moving back home to West Texas. Wendy doesn’t put much stock in what she calls “the cosmic, Sanskrit hooey” that goes along with yoga but, hey, she’s actually pretty good at it so ashram, here she comes…right into the clutches of a bunch of quirky, chanting vegans who have happily taken an exorbitant amount of money from her for the privilege of making her life fairly miserable. As it turns out, Wendy will also get a chance to engage in a bit of FBI shenanigans and discover a few things about herself. Who knew this adventure could be so much fun?

Authors don’t always make the best audio narrators—Stephen King comes to mind despite my devotion to his tales—but Kelly Jackson brings just the right tone to it. In fact, I’d say her vocalizations and comedic skills bring the story to life and I recommend everyone try the audio edition to have a really fun read.

Talented Narration

I was looking for light entertainment during the COViD safer-in-place and this book did NOT disappoint.

I was leery when I saw the writer was also the narrator. Sometimes the authors are dull and inexperienced readers. This was not the case here. I was impressed by the number of diocese and the moods and character she gave to each person.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am under no obligation to leave a review.

If you like a fun light story and enjoy a talented voice actor, I recommend this book.

Loved the narration and beginning.

I requested and received it for free because I liked the title.

I enjoyed the narrator's voice and style through and through. Her voice is pleasant and with personality, good at different characters.

I was hooked in the beginning chapters. I didn't enjoy the parts about love, super techy stuff and FBI because I was hoping for a plausible story with a less predictable ending.

I recommend it for when you want a light reading.
