About this listen

Ever since she discovered her ex-husband's affair, Dana Sue Sullivan decided to put down new roots and create the best restaurant in Serenity, South Carolina. After years of hard labor, her dream has become a reality. Sullivan's provides more than just Southern comfort food - it's become a haven for the whole town - and Dana Sue knows better than anyone that relying on friendship can get you through the toughest times.

But when her teenage daughter Annie develops an eating disorder that lands her in the hospital, Dana Sue's perfect life comes crumbling down. On top of it all, her own health starts to deteriorate. Dana Sue knows she needs to change habits now to help them both get better - even if that means letting Ronnie Sullivan back into their lives.

And who knows, his return might end up being a recipe for a new beginning....

Narrator was painful to listen to

Narrator was terrible. Her accents almost sounded British instead of southern. Almost returned book because of her. Good thing the story itself is good

The story is great

I wasn’t so fond of the performance, as the reader sounded more like a fast-paced news anchor than a storyteller. I had a hard time concentrating on the story. But it’s a great story. I love the Sweet Magnolias so far and can’t wait to hear the next book.

Bad narration

I really like the serious but the narrator makes it hard to listen to. Hope it’s someone new narrating the next book!

Terrible narrator, yikes!

Narrator sounds robotic and unemotional. Hard to focus on story. So WASPy and electronic. Next.

Everyone else has said it already

The narrator wasn't good, but slowing it down to 0.8x as someone else suggested really helped. I knew I had to keep plowing through to get to the finish so I could move forward in the series. Dreamscapes should really consider a rerelease.

Speed Reader

It seemed the narrator read quickly. Other than that, I enjoyed Dana Sue’s story. I look forward to listening to the next book.

Good, but liked the first book better

Did not like the narrator at all for this book, would like the first book's narrator back. The storyline for this book was a little repetitive and predictable.

Storyline was great

The story was full of all the warm fuzzy feels! The only downside was the narrator 😩.

Woah!

This was hard to get through. Not my favorite story! The performance was awful! She sounds ridiculously theatrical & pretentious. 🙄

Irish Accent Narrator Jarring

Its incredibly awkward to have an Irish narrator trying to do a Southern American accent and drawl. I loved the first book but it's really grating to have the Irish accent telling the story. Hard to focus on the story. Makes me want to stop listening and read the book instead.
