About this listen

To most eyes Leah Carrollton might appear the dutiful debutante, but it takes Devon Marshall less than a minute to feel the enormous pull of a kindred, rebellious soul. At their first meeting, Devon and Leah are about to acknowledge the amazing connection between them when her brother steps in and clarifies their identities. As members of the rival Carrollton and Marshall families, the two can never mix. However, Devon has never met a woman he couldn't seduce, and a bet - with a bit of bravado mixed in - leads him straight to Leah and a scandal that turns the ton upside down.

With a fast-moving story line, strong plot twists, and a good dose of drama, Cathy Maxwell brings a fresh take to the regency genre. Devon has depth beyond that of the usual romance rake, and Leah is neither the stereotypical naive waif nor the spunky but idiotic go-getter. Their realistic character flaws and mature reactions make Leah and Devon a couple you can truly root for.

Loved everything about the book, except the epilogue. Might there be a sequel with a more developed afterward?

Satisfying to those with rebel hearts

This book is such a gem, deviating from the Regency Romance formula in the most refreshing way. The themes in this book translate to our modern world beautifully and the characters are well-developed in a way that connects the reader emotionally (I was bawling a few times from the struggles and triumphs the characters experienced).

Thank you for such a special journey, Ms. Maxwell. I can’t wait to hear another!

Refreshing, Unique, Enchanting!

I couldn't put it down, because you can't predict what will happen next. It also, gives all of us something to think about when dealing with family.

Interesting new twist on romance

I loved this story. The love story was very sweet. I kind of wish the Grandfather could have lived to see the second grandchild though.

Very good read

Lovely second chance romance

I really enjoyed this one! Although I can't give it 5 for the glaring anachronisms. Yet it was still a book I would recommend. The sex was pg13 and the afterward was perfect.

Wonderful! Problems resolved wo a ton of angst!

The story spends nearly three-fourths of the book introducing characters and giving background stories with small dramas while setting up for the larger dramas introduced in the final two hours of the story. It's an easy listen with likeable H/h and supporting characters. While I threatened to stop listening a couple of times, I'm glad I finished, especially since I listen to books nearly everyday and need a break from time to time in the type of drama found in most regency romance novels. Narrator performed very well. This novel was included in the free audiobooks.
