About this listen

New from Jerry D. Young

When Horatio Billings returned from a trip, and first met Penny, she was sitting behind his receptionist/paralegal’s desk in his office. He had absolutely no idea why she was there instead of his girlfriend who was also his current receptionist/paralegal.

After coaxing a very short explanation out of her, loud enough for him to actually hear, the surprises just kept coming. Some, he found, were actually quite nice. But others, definitely not so much.

Regardless, Penny is far more than what he thought initially, and as the two begin to get to know each other, he finds she is turning him into just as much of a prepper as she is. She also realizes...and resents...the country's march towards a police surveillance state. So, Horatio decides to ponder those first thoughts she offered to him, and any additional ones he could get her to share with him, because even those first thoughts she shared with him were worth far more than any Penny coin.

My favorite author!

This was a twist on the usual prepper books that I’ve read by this author and I wish there was a book two of it. I’m very grateful to Mr. Young for putting his wonderful books on audible for people who can no longer read them because of eyesight problems. Please keep them coming! I really enjoy this narrator too. I can’t wait til Jerry’s next book. I really look forward to them.

Great story and narration

Love the character development and story line. Abrupt ending was not expected or appreciated. I hope a sequel is planned. Took a star because of the ending.

If you liked Odd Billy Todd…

… you will probably like this book as well.
This is the first book I’ve ever listened to by Jerry D. Young. When i looked at his bio it says that he’s very big in the prepper community. I looked at his other books and they certainly are of the prepper variety. I came close to passing up this one but…. Christopher Lane is the narrator. I can’t pass up Christopher Lane! He is an awesome narrator who (in my opinion) doesn’t narrate enough in the mystery/thriller genre.
This book starts out with the protagonist (Horacio Billings) returning to his office after a trip and find a very petite (4’9”) woman (Penny Arcade [Really?]) sitting at his secretary’s desk. Seems this woman is an acquaintance of her’s. There’s some bad blood between them and it only worsens when his secretary/girlfriend finds that she’s been replaced for both positions.
Penny is a prepper and introduces Horatio to the lifestyle. Initially he’s a nonbeliever in an imminent catastrophic event but she soon has him turned around to her way of thinking. This will soon become a life saver.
I thought this was a good story. Once the initial plot was laid out I did think it was a little predictable. I did find it entertaining and informative and find preppers very intriguing. I did not however find this book to be a mystery or thriller.
