The Thunder of Engines, Book 2

Kaem and Arya are trying to sell “stade”, a piece of space-time in stasis, for its phenomenal mechanical properties.

Stronger than any known substance, it cannot not melt, burn, bend or break. It’s also a perfect insulator and reflects all radiation. Essentially, it can’t be altered; time is stopped within it. Kaem and Arya are struggling to negotiate the best prices they can while simultaneously fighting another company’s bid to pre-empt their patent. As if those struggles weren’t sufficient, Kaem’s beloved father develops cancer. He must try to help his family through that crisis while simultaneously attempting to save the company.

Good clean fun with hope

It's a hopeful story without harsh language or compromising situations. Many times during the book the characters are finding they have unconscious bias and have given unintended discrimination and are called out for it. I found it handled this social hot topic with grace frequently not found.

Most UNDERRATED book I listened to in a year!

Just awesome! How this book has so few reviews is a puzzle to me. If a person has a grasp of mechanics this book is easy to imagine the devices.

Intriguing

The premise was interesting. It's fun to break away from the norms and just listen to a fictional story and not be bogged down by the tiny details.

Love the use of conceptual physics!! Perfect descriptions that enable you to visualize what's being said....

Cool concept, but slow…

Although I really like the concept of this series I ended up speeding up the narration because the book was slow. Still worth reading.

Way better than I thought

Way better than I thought it would be. Interesting story and well thought-out character dynamics and story line.

Not overly Sciency, but just enough to make it interesting.
Narrator did really well with all the different characters.

I’ve seen some reviewer’s complaining about cussing amongst college kids. I don’t remember any cussing. Though I suppose there could’ve have been the occasional damn and sh*t exclamations. But I wouldn’t consider these as profane.

...the "sciency what-if's" are so fun...

The way Dr Dahners' characters are so lovable and the "sciency what-if's" are so fun to visualize make his books my prized possessions. My admittedly microscopic Audiobooks library of about 300 plus titles does not make me an expert but... of all the authors, great and recognized, Doctor Laurence Dahners keeps my attention all the way through even the longest series (Ell Donsaii). Please try them all, because his books are lacking extended violent battles, ultra dark themes, and all the other crutches of less capable authors yet the endings come far to soon, then you're left feeling satisfied that hope for mankind is eternal. That's me sayin' it, not him. Sometimes I feel like I've received an ethics reset (with anesthetic). Oh oh oh... try The Bonesetter series but first google up: orthopedic surgeon and read his Bio. All the works of this fine author are EXCELLENT. (the very best there is)...unless your some kind of psycho-killer-maniac ! Smile, that was a joke.
