About this listen

Busted for smoking pot, college-bound suburbanite Danny is incredulous when forced to spend the night in jail. He’s repulsed by his cellmate, a homeless and mentally ill drug addict who keeps him awake all night with his delusional rants. By morning, Danny’s world is completely upended.

A Night In Jail is a grim pause-resister with a staggering ending.

Original music by Connor Swan Smith.

This audio book was very shocking and entertaining. The narration by Quintin Flynn was excellent! I loved the perspective of Danny figuring our how to manipulate his parents.

Compelling and Heartbreaking

As someone who has suffered from both mental illness and substance abuse, this story really hits home for me. The hours flew by as I listened to this tale, as if experiencing it firsthand. The narration is fascinating and stirring at times. It completely brings the characters to life in amazing detail. I was immersed from start to finish.

An Excellent Short Story About Mental Illness

This was a fantastic novella from start to finish that had a beautiful twist with a powerful message, and the foreshadowing was done well without overdoing it. The story covers 11 hours in a jail cell while it seems like past, present, and future mingle together in this time. The narration is excellently done by Quinton Flynn, well known for his video game and anime voice over roles such as Axel and Raiden. His voice work is very lively and immersive here and really draws you in, and as such, I highly recommend this audiobook for a listen, especially for young adolescents and young adults to understand the issues of mental health and young age drug abuse. Got it memorized?

Gripping tale of the risks of drug use

This novella draws you in right from the get go - a must read especially for the high school/ young adult reader. A powerful story illustrating the impact and consequences of recreational drug use and how it can impact on one's life and career, but much more importantly one's long term mental health.

Moving true story

The book definitely would be a great read for teens. (Or adults)This young man could have prevented so much heartache in his life by making wise choices in his youth. It is an emotional, gripping, cautionary life story. I have heard the main character speak in person and I know he wants his story to help change negative choices that ruin young peoples’ lives.
It is a well written book that draws you into the cell.
There is some strong language, but that is to be expected by someone in a life situation like this.

Excellent content and performance

I highly recommend this book and story not only for its valuable content but for its potential to inspire people to think differently about the developing brain and the risks of teen drug use. The authors have also produced an excellent improv lesson for schools and youth organizations that could save lives.

Clever and powerful juxtaposition of before and after

A powerful lens into the destruction and chaos of addiction and mental illness, before, during and after. Heart-wrenching and compelling, A Night in Jail certainly caused a full range of emotions that will stay with me as I continue to journey on this road to recovery.
