About this listen

A young bride’s life is snuffed out on December 2, 2001 in Haifa, Israel, when a Palestinian suicide bomber destroys a bus. One hundred and ninety-three souls are lost on March 11, 2004, when a coordinated bomb attack occurs on the Cercanías commuter train system in Madrid, Spain, with a Scottish SAS Sergeant Major’s fiancée among the dead. What do these two events have in common? An Iranian terrorist who goes by the name Mohammad al-Qaedi.

Fast forward 20 years, black ops operators Michael Wolfe and Ian McGill join forces for a clandestine mission inside Iran. They come back burned out and both yearning for retirement from careers that have taken everything but their lives. During this mission, they uncover the identity of the person responsible for the deaths of their loved ones 20 years earlier.

When Britain’s House of Parliament and Big Ben are targeted by al-Qaedi, the president of the United States sends Wolfe to London in an effort to assist MI6. He prevents the massive bombing and, in the process, eliminates the terrorist’s source of weapons and funding.

The Iranian extremist vows vengeance.

Is this really the end!!

Could this really be the last story of the line? Action packed from beginning to end. The blend over from the Sean Kruger series was tastefully done.

Well done

Another good listen. McSorley does a fine job. Kruger's cameo was a pleasant surprise. Great characters, lots of action. Very pleased with the purchase.

A great escape!

J C Fields takes me around the world and back to southern Missouri with the aid of Paul McSorley. Having lived in Howell county for two and half years, and Springfield for a little over 11 years before retiring back home in the Pacific Northwest, I have had the opportunity to meet J C Fields. He denies ever working with the FBI or CIA but I have to wonder... His books and the narration provide me an incredible mental journey into a world where good battles evil. And wins. 6/7/2022GJB 6:21 Pacific

Another spectacular thriller from Author J.C. Fields!

Another spectacular thriller from author J. C. Fields, A Matter of Payback will keep you glued to your seat from page one. Though this novel is book 3 in Field’s Michael Wolf Saga series, the story easily stands alone…but if you haven’t read books one and two, I recommend you start with book one to get the full impact of how Fields weaves together his richly-drawn cast of characters.

A Matter of Payback took me on a thrilling ride across continents with twists and turns, international espionage, terrorist plots, political intrigue, and a realistic look into the life of Michael Wolfe, a ready-to-be-retired, black-ops sniper—all spun with expertise and the talented craftsmanship this author continues to display.

Another five shining stars for JC Fields. Thank you for such an enjoyable read.

If you love a good thriller that will keep you guessing, I highly recommend A Matter of Payback.

It was Ok

I like the series, but I have not been excited about the narration which is an important part of the story for me. It’s a subjective observation so others may not agree, but for me it is a drag on the story. The storyline was a little predictable, but most like this are. Good guys go after a terrorist. Still, it is entertaining. I think it may be the last of the series…
