About this listen

While out walking Sarge, her sister's bichon frise, Tricia is led by the agitated dog to a man lying in a gazebo. She's startled when she recognizes Pete Renquist, the president of the Stoneham Historical Society, who appears to be suffering from cardiac arrest. When Pete later dies in the hospital, the discovery of a suspicious bruise and a puncture mark on his arm suggests he may have been murdered.

Haunted by Pete's enigmatic last words to her, Tricia begins to consider who had a motive to kill her friend. Did Pete take his flirting too far, only to have a jealous husband teach him a lesson? Or did he discover something in the town's historical records that his killer wanted kept secret? Tricia is determined to get to the bottom of things before someone else becomes history....

Have a hanky handy

I truly like this series, although this one made my heart hurt and I needed a hanky. I just discovered this author last week and was very happy to see there were 16 books to binge read. After reading this one though...I wondered if LB was related to Ellery Adam's it seems they both like to kill off main characters. (which I heartily disapprove of) even so, I did enjoy reading the story, it was very good, and one I will keep and re-read later.

Shocking Ending!

I have listened to every book in this series & it's only because I've grown to love Angelica, Mr. Everett & the other townsfolk. The main character, Tricia, is easily one of the most unlikeable unrelateable characters in any cozy mystery series. So, if you like to get into a book where you get attached
to the main character then this series will not fit the bill! Tricia is grumpy, rude, cynical, non charitable & overall someone you are cheering for to lose, which is an odd choice. So be warned about that!
However, I enjoy the other characters so much that I continue to read/listen. And I was very pleased with this latest installment. I did NOT see the ending coming at all, it was a complete shock. If you read all the books you are so entangled in these characters lives that you will be surprised in every way with how it ends. Great story, great plot line & great performance on this story!

Ten Stars

This is the best book in the series. Lorna Barrett has out done herself. I started listening to this book while starting out on my morning errands and did not stop listening until I finished that evening. I am still processing the ending and wondering what Lorna is going to do with Trisha in the next book. All I can say is wow!!!!!

Seriously?

I'm not sure why it was written with such an ending. Cozy mysteries are not usually so dark.

Thank God there's only one more to go ...

Any additional comments?

I've gone this far, I might as well go on to the next. I saw the ending coming a mile away, so it was no big surprise. The surprise, however, continues to be Tricia's amazing unlikeability. Unapologetically, humorlessly judgemental. The author must have awful food issues. I don't think we've ever seen Tricia get through a meal without 'losing her appetite' ... or trying to fat shame anyone who even looks twice at a dessert or potato chip. And even though it has no relationship to the story whatsoever, anyone she meets who fits the bill, needs to be described by how fat they are. Because it's so unnecessary, it's a little jarring to hear. I hate to say it ... but you DO find yourself thinking 'well she deserved THAT' every time something awful happens to her. She always accuses everyone she can think of and then hopes no one will think ill of her. Everyone simply loves her and by the end of every single book, I ask myself why. I was going to quit the series, but when I saw I only had one left, I figured I'd see what happens to the other characters who are rendered much more entertaining to know.

So much anger

Not sure why the main character is so angry all the time. Did not enjoy as much as others in the series. Feel like the author did not enjoy writing this one.
