About this listen

Eloise Drake's prim demeanor hides the turbulent past she's finally put behind her - or so she thinks. A mathematical genius, she's now a successful accountant for the largest engineering project in 1908 New York. But to her dismay, her new position puts her back in the path of the man responsible for her deepest heartbreak.

Alex Duval is the mayor of a town about to be wiped off the map. The state plans to flood the entire valley where his town sits in order to build a new reservoir, and Alex is stunned to discover the woman he once loved on the team charged with the demolition. With his world crumbling around him, Alex devises a risky plan to save his town - but he needs Eloise's help to succeed.

Alex is determined to win back the woman he thought he'd lost forever, but even their combined ingenuity may not be enough to overcome the odds against them before it's too late.

Most emotionally developed of the series

Loved it. However, I had a hard time warming up to the heroine. she eventually evolves but I could never be friends with a gal like that. Regardless the story was incredible. There is mystery, intrigue, who dine it and a well balanced A love triangle that may drive you mad. Sprinkle in a tiny bit of romance!
All read by a phenomenal narrator! Yep this book is so well written it will make you want to reread it all over again.

Desperate Hope

Elizabeth Camden grabs my interest, my heart and my soul with each book she writes. Knowing how difficult it is to craft historical romance with excellent characters in a believable setting, I find Camden’s ability to add a spiritual element truly a God thing.

We met Eloise Drake's in Daring Venture. In this the third book in the series, she’s areal character who is finally putting her past behind her. As a mathematical genius, Eloise comes back home to Duvall Springs.

The heartbreaker, Alex Duval, is now the mayor who desperately needs her help. I thought Eloise was a rather weak character in Daring Venture., however she became one of my favorites in this book. Maybe this is Camden’s true gift. She paints God’s work with a subtle stroke, so delicate and precise as to be difficult to analyze or describe.

Alex is the perfect first-love lasting-love, boy next door character. PG 13 with a backstory of teenage mistakes. Excellent redemption side story. The romance and historical event remains the focus.

This author makes boring subjects exciting

I learned so much about life in in early 1900,’s. Life in big cities and small towns Who would have thought a destruction of a town and rebuilding could be interesting Character development was good and I never knew what was going to happen next. Great novel
