About this listen

#1 New York Times bestselling author Daniel Silva delivers another stunning thriller in his action-packed tale of high stakes international intrigue.

A brutal murder, a missing masterpiece, a mystery only Gabriel Allon can solve . . .

Art restorer and legendary spy Gabriel Allon has slipped quietly into London to attend a reception at the Courtauld Gallery celebrating the return of a stolen self-portrait by Vincent van Gogh. But when an old friend from the Devon and Cornwall Police seeks his help with a baffling murder investigation, he finds himself pursuing a powerful and dangerous new adversary.

The victim is Charlotte Blake, a celebrated professor of art history from Oxford who spends her weekends in the same seaside village where Gabriel once lived under an assumed identity. Her murder appears to be the work of a diabolical serial killer who has been terrorizing the Cornish countryside. But there are a number of telltale inconsistencies, including a missing mobile phone. And then there is the mysterious three-letter cypher she left behind on a notepad in her study.

Gabriel soon discovers that Professor Blake was searching for a looted Picasso worth more than a $100 million, and he takes up the chase for the painting as only he can—with six Impressionist canvases forged by his own hand and an unlikely team of operatives that includes a world-famous violinist, a beautiful master thief, and a lethal contract killer turned British spy. The result is a stylish and wildly entertaining mystery that moves at lightning speed from the cliffs of Cornwall to the enchanted island of Corsica and, finally, to a breathtaking climax on the very doorstep of 10 Downing Street.

Supremely elegant and suspenseful, A Death in Cornwall is Daniel Silva at his best—a dazzling tale of murder, power, and insatiable greed that will hold listeners spellbound until they finish listening.

Not so crazy about the-retired-Allon’s exploits

This story starts out quickly and moves along well and with suspense but the storyline doesn’t draw me in as before. I miss the Director Allon and his crew from the office. The main point in these retired-Allon stories seem to be to share Silva’s political leanings.

Allon!!

Silva does it again! Great story concerning the Israeli Spy master, Gabriel Allon. Over the span of 20 books plus Silva has given us great stories of intrigue and daring. Can’t wait for the next one!

Charmed and addicted to this character

A yearly visit is both satisfying and painful! I hate to hear the last words uttered as much as I am excited for the first words. This book felt different than previous books because there was humor and a deep look at Gabriel as a family man and caretaker of the many people who have come and returned to his life. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend you have a listen. I got absolutely nothing done all day because I was so absorbed by the story.

Silva, Ballerini and Allon are a wonderful trio

I have read the entire Gabriel Allon series and have enjoyed each book, the addition over the last four books or so of Eduardo Ballerini as narrator has now resulted in a perfect pairing. These books are just sheer enjoyment.

Art Theft becomes the mans headache again.

It was nice to see Gabriel's other team make re-appearances, and to help him track down another art theft ring. I do miss the group from Israeli intelligence, though. Another fine effort on the author's part.
