About this listen

Ex-pat Sadie Greene expects some bumps in the road while navigating her new life as a bicycling tour company owner in the South of France. But murder is one obstacle she can’t avoid …

Nine months ago, Sadie Greene shocked friends and family by ditching her sensible office job in the Chicago suburbs and buying a sight-unseen French bicycling tour company, Oui Cycle. Now she’s living the unconventional life of her dreams in the gorgeous village of Sans-Souci-sur-Mer. Sans souci means carefree, but Sadie feels enough pressure to burst a tire when hometown friends arrive for a tour, including her former boss, Dom Appleton. Sadie is determined to show them the wonders of France and cycling—and to prove she made the right move.

She hopes her meticulously planned nine-day itinerary will win them over, with its stunning seascapes, delicious wine tastings, hilltop villages, and, of course, frequent stops for croissants. When Dom drags his heels on fun, Sadie vows he’ll enjoy if it kills her. That is, until Dom ends up dead. The tragedy was no accident.

Someone went out of their way to bring a permanent end to Dom’s vacation.

As more crimes—and murder—roll in, suspicions hover over Oui Cycle. To save her dream business, help her friends, and bring justice, Sadie launches her own investigation. However, mysteries mount with every turn. On an uphill battle for clues, can Sadie come to terms with her painful past while spinning closer to the truth—or will a twisted killer put the brakes on her for good?

Horrible narration, boring story

I had high hopes for this book but I ended up very disappointed. The story was boring and the protagonist insufferable. However what made this listen even more difficult was the narrator! If I was the author, I’d be mortified to have her reading my book. Her accents and pronunciations of French towns and words were atrocious and embarrassing. The only reason I finished listening was because I spent a credit on this book. There was so much potential for this story but it fell flat on its face.

Insipid Story and Performance

When a husband is murdered on a bike tour and the wife chooses to finish the bike tour, you've lost me. What about getting his body home and everything else normal people would do? It's just a stupid premise. The writing
itself is juvenile in its style. As for the narrator, she's going for "young and peppy," but just comes off as grating. And the mispronunciations! Pyrenees as pie-renees the first half, and then the correct way the second half. Phylo pronounced fie-lo, and even monsieur as mon-sewer. Ugh! Part of the fun is looking up real places in books, but the narrator pronounced the town names so badly that I couldn't make them out. Really disappointing waste of a credit.
