About this listen

Kicked out of England for offending the royal family, Britania Rule heads for Leadville, in the Colorado backcountry. Passing herself off as a highborn lady, she pursues her dream of opening a parlor of spiritual enlightenment.

Cody James, her guide, thinks he must be half-crazy to hire out to a female. But his luck at the gaming tables has run dry, and she’s his meal ticket out of town. Betrayed by the only woman he ever loved, and shot and left for dead by a man he once called friend, Cody declares himself a loner.

Traveling side by side, they deny their desire for one another, but the Tarot cards say otherwise. Their hot night of passion confirms the prediction. Will love be waiting at the end of the trail? Or could Cody’s past destroy their future?

Will the cards be right?

Can tarot cards really tell the future? When Britania completes a reading and finds herself in trouble with her findings, she leaves England as a deal with the Royal family. Now in America, she turn to Cody to guide her to Colorado. With these two, you can feel the sparks immediately, both in their banter and their chemistry. Now settling in her new town, Cody finds his past catching up with him, plus his feelings for Britania keep him close. Will they find their way to each other and divulge their secrets? It's action packed, full of steam, and an enjoyable historical western. Narrated with the raspy voice of Richard L Walton, I enjoyed this novella.

Mystical historial

Britania Rule is kicked out of Britain after a tarot reading that implicated a member of the royal family in murder. After arriving in America she uses the tarot to decide what's next. This ends up involving Cody James who she hires to escort her.

This is an interesting mix of historical romance (although a little racier than normal) and mystical with the addition of the tarot.

The characters are well done and the romance develops nicely, it;s a fun and quick read (listen).

The narration was well done, the character voices were convincing and the pace and tone matched what was happening in the story.

A short story that packs a punch!

What did you love best about A Cowboy's Fate?

All of it. It was riveting, interesting and I loved the narration.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that it was fast-paced, had some twists and very strong characters. I did not see the end coming.

Have you listened to any of Richard L. Walton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but I loved it. He had a very cowboy sounding voice and was easy to listen too.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The excitement near the end. Sorry, can't say more without it being a spoiler!

Any additional comments?

Wow, was I surprised at this one. The story is fast paced and you get a lot in such a short time. be prepared to listen to it all in one sitting it is that good! Both the male and the female lead is strong and appealing. I fell for Cody and his bad boy image but his gentleman ways as well. everything you want in a cowboy.. rough, rugged, handsome, hardworking, chivalrous. There are some twists and I didn't see the end coming! I highly recommend this if you like a good historical romance with hot cowboys!

It’s in the cards...

This was a nice short story with an interesting main character. Britania Rule gets into a bit of a situation after a tarot card reading offends the wrong family. Now she chooses to make a fresh start in America. When she does a tarot card reading for the guide she has hired to get her to Colorado, sparks begin to fly. What will the future hold for Britania and Cody?

I enjoyed this book.

A Cowboy's Fate is a short read or in my case listen. I listened the the Audiobook. Gini Rifkin packed a lot in this short 3 hours audiobook. It s the tale of Britania Rule and Cody James. There are a couple of sex scenes and a few curse words. A few places the book felt a little rushed btu was still a good read.

Britania was basically kicked out of England when she read tarot cards for a man she met. Not knowing it was a Royal family member. She went to the police with the information she learned for the reading. This offended the Royal family and she was given options. She does a taort card reading for herelf and basically the cards tell her to go to America and she does. When Britania arrives she has changed her whole persona. She is playing off being a high borne lady. She heads to Leadville Colorado to open her own parlor of spiritual enlightenment.

Britana hires Cody to be her guide along the way. Britania does a tarot card reading for Cody which says he will fall in love. There is instant sparks between the 2 of them. They choose to ignore those sparks, but the cards have spoken.

Once they arrive in Leadville Cody's past comes back to haunt him. They both have to survive the skeleton in the closet now.

The audiobook was narrated by Richard L. Walton. I really enjoyed his gravely with a hint of a lisp voice. I could listen to him all day. He done an amazing job with the voices for the characters as well as adding emotion to each sentence.

A Head turner

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This was a story that the narration made come to life. It started slowly with the many details of why the heroine was in America and how she came about hiring the hero. Several scenes of them on the trail were funny. I liked the scenes when they encountered the villain of the story, also how the ending made him get his just desserts. Overall the story was a good listen.

Short but oh so sweet...............

A Cowboy's Fate is short in length but packs in a lot of story, heat and passion all the same. The story takes place in Colorado during the time of horse-drawn wagons and gunslingers. Into this wild west arrives Britania Rule in order to start a new life after being exiled by the royal family from her native Britain. She hires professional gambler and nomad Cody James to get her safely to Leadville. These two could not be more different in most ways, but they have both been betrayed by previous lovers and are equally afraid of any and all attachments. I liked how the author used the challenges of the trail and life in the Old West to get these headstrong characters to finally open up to one another, and the chemistry between them is incendiary once they finally admit their feelings. Throw in some life threatening adventure towards the end of the book as well as a sweet HEA at the very end, and A Cowboy's Fate is a great choice for any fan of the historical romance genre.

The narration by Richard L Walton is very enjoyable, and I would listen to him again in the future. He differentiates well between the male and female characters, but his foreign accent for Britania did not sound British to my ears. Luckily, his performance is so smooth that I didn't let it distract me from the story.
