Entrepreneur’s 12 Productivity and Time-Management Books to Read

“I’m won over to a day with people, not screens.... I tried Shlain’s idea. I highly recommend it.” (The New York Times)

“Tiffany Shlain is a modern-day prophet, brilliant and incredibly funny in equal measure.... 24/6 is timeless and timely wisdom.” (Angela Duckworth, number one New York Times best-selling author)

This “wise, wonderful work” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) demonstrates how turning off screens one day a week can work wonders on your brain, body, and soul.

Do you wish you had more time to do what you love, think deeply, and focus on the people and things that matter most? By giving up screens one day a week for more than a decade, internet pioneer and renowned filmmaker Tiffany Shlain and her family have gained more time, productivity, connection, and presence. Shlain takes us on a thought-provoking and entertaining journey through time and technology, introducing a strategy for flourishing in our 24/7 world. Drawn from the ancient ritual of Shabbat, living 24/6 can work for anyone from any background. With humor and wisdom, Shlain shares her story, offering the accessible lessons she has learned and providing a blueprint for how to do it yourself.

“Bolstered with fascinating and germane facts about neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, and the history of the concept of a day of rest” (Publishers Weekly), 24/6 makes the case for incorporating this weekly reset into our 24/7 lives, issuing a call to rebalance ourselves and our society.

A deeply felt portrait of our digital culture

I started listening to this book and could not stop until I was finished. I had no idea there was so much to say about unplugging, the internet and how it effects our creativity. It's also the story of her life as she was one of the first females in tech. I was not expecting such an emotional journey. By the end of the book I was completely wrung out.

The narration is exceptional!

More value than expected

The author is brilliant with an abundance of wisdom poured into this book. Although you will learn the importance of taking a day off your screens I feel this book offers more value then just that. To name a few being an amazing human being, that can better the world in every situation by just being present. Responsible parenting, making sure we’re being accountable in raising our children so that they can grow up changing the world making it better.

Just the inspiration and structure I needed!

I just finished my first Tech Shabbat. Thank you to Tiffany Shlain – this is exactly the antidote I needed for the digital life that has saved its way into every crack of life. I can’t wait for my next 24 hours of unplugging. This will be a lifetime rhythm for me!

My Thoughts on 24/6

I discovered Tiffany Shlain through Christina Crook. I purchased 24/6 on Audible. The reason is two fold. I learn more effectively through auditory channels than reading the printed word on a page. I feel that I connect more to the information that is being presented more effectively as well. I loved Tiffany's reading of her book in her own voice very much. I felt so connected to what she was saying that I couldn't stop listening and finished the book in 3 days. I loved learning about her family and her relationships with her family. I can relate to the meaning of tech shabbat as I am Jewish and belong to a Temple in NY and we have been on zoom since March 2020. Tomorrow is our first in person service and a perfect way to try out my first tech shabbat. I love the accompanying PDF's and have put it in a separate notebook to answer questions and have a separate journal for prompts. Over the past year I have been connecting to family and friends through social media and while I am grateful for the connections and zoom I am looking forward to my first tech shabbat and unplugging tomorrow and making it a weekly ritual . Thank you Tiffany and Christina Crook your work and your dedication to helping us mange our digital world. A must have in print or in my case Audible form. I plan on listening to it again .

Awesome and Inspiring

Most memorable moment is when Tiffany shared how she would want her life to be as she nears the end of her life. Touching!

Really worthwhile

I wasn’t certain when I chose to read this book…I thought it might be a lecture, a reprimand. It wasn’t, it was a beautiful story, rich with emotion and a deep sense of the value of time. I am reading it for a second time (I rarely read any book more than once). This is a gift, I hope you will open it too.

Great Content - Annoying Author

Every family is dealing with devices and screens taking over their lives. The concept to put the devices down for one day a week is powerful. If the author stuck to her content and the point of this book, that would be a message perfectly communicated. But she, like so many in media, feel their listeners are interested in her politics. She just can't help herself from interjecting her personal politics into a book that otherwise would have been a really joyful listen.

Great book but a lot of fluff!

This book is great and contains several great ideas on how you can unplug from all screens and electronic devices for one day a week (24 hours). I am definitely going to take some of the ideas and adapt them for my family. While there are a lot of great ideas in the book, there were several parts that seemed to drag on just to make the book longer. The book as a whole could have been about 50% shorter. Tiffany does a great job, however, with the narration of this book!
