About this listen
The story narrates a critical year in the life of a 40-year-old man living in a remote farmer’s town on the border of Wales. Having lived in numerous countries and cities due to his father’s profession, he found solace only in one town that he called home.
This heart-wrenching tale encompasses his passionate struggle during the global pandemic as he fought for his life with a mysterious flulike illness that caused a collapsed lung, pneumonia, and a fractured rib. The real deal was a brain hemorrhage caused by aneurysms that came circumstantially.
Nevertheless, the resilience that he had instilled in his soul brought him back to life. During this excruciating journey, he was pleased by the impactful role that the paramedics, doctors, and nurses had on him that motivated him to keep fighting for his life. Furthermore, the role of Walton Centre Hospital of Liverpool is worth praising during the havoc and upheaval caused by the freak events. The story is far from a pity party as the dark humor from the author’s cynical outlook on life is sure to keep you entertained throughout.

Story
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Story
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

Meg Apperson grew up having a relationship with Jesus, and she always trusted God. But it wasn't until her daughter Avery - a miracle in so many ways - was born with a litany of life-threatening birth defects that she began to fully understand what it means to trust Jesus with everything. In this heartbreakingly beautiful memoir, you'll learn how a mother fought for her child, her family, and even herself as she grappled with the weight of failure - of letting down everyone around her and feeling let down by God.

This is a mind-blowing, true story of Woody Overton, diagnosed by the best medical professionals in the world, who all agreed upon one thing - that he would be an invalid and disabled for the rest of his life. He had been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia which is more commonly known as “the suicide disease” because the majority of the people who have the disease kill themselves. What all of the best medical experts didn't expect was the fact that Woody Overton and his family had absolute faith in Jesus Christ who has the final say in all things!

In gripping prose, one of the world's leading cardiac surgeons lays bare both the wonder and the horror of a life spent a heartbeat away from death. When Stephen Westaby witnessed a patient die on the table during open-heart surgery for the first time, he was struck by the quiet, determined way the surgeons walked away. As he soon understood, this detachment is a crucial survival strategy in a profession where death is only a heartbeat away. In Open Heart, Westaby reflects on over 11,000 surgeries, showing us why the procedures have never become routine and will never be.

Story
Julia Fox Garrison refused to listen to the professionals she called Dr. Jerk and Dr. Panic, who - after she suffered a massive, debilitating stroke at age thirty-seven - told her she’d probably die, or to Nurse Doom, who ignored her emergency call button. Instead she heeded the advice of kind, gifted Dr. Neuro, who promised her he would “treat your mind as well as your body.” Julia figured if she could somehow manage to get herself into a wheelchair, at least she’d always find parking. But after many, many months of hospitalization and rehab, Julia not only got into a wheelchair, but she got back out.

This guy is hilarious while telling his story
I really enjoyed this book. He told his story and was still able to add humor while telling the intensity of his experience. Story was well written. And how fascinating that he insured all that in 2020! Glad he is still with us today.
