interesting horror/intrigue Bookended by bad battles and snide whiplash styled villains... this pretty much says it all.

the short end is, the components of the story that entail "The Water spider" are fascinating and the voice work is fantastic, but the boring combat set-pieces bookend what could be a genuine horror-thriller. Only one "combat" sequence stands out to me as good and it's a vignette of Farsight onboard a Terran ship.

Beyond that, do you like unkillable space marines who keep coming back to life over, and over and over again, even after getting the Terminator 2 treatment? if so, you'll love those book.

if you're buying this hoping to learn more about the Tau, you'll get about 1.5 stories worth, and the rest of the collection is about the white scars and "their way."

if you're bored with space marine stories then you're out of luck

Have you ever wanted to listen to something on par with Sharktopus? Have you ever sat down and skimmed through audible and thought to yourself, "man, there are just too many good books, but I want one that's bad"? Well, then this is the book for you! The narrator's voice is so monotone and boring that I lost track of a large amount of conversations, which, sounds bad at first until you realize that most of the conversations revolve around the same premise:

two people, one a mustache twirling mustachio is nustashing his mustache at the damsel, speaking to her as she questions why he doeant kill her. The mustachio responds by telling her that he isnt going to kill her because her hero isnt going to come save her, and when he doesnt save her, he will capture the hero and make him watch as he eats her. She asks why hes keeping her alive if the hero isnt there, and the baddie asks her why she thinks her hero is even there in the first place, and her response is, "because I'm still alive."

Repeat. Seriously. this conversation looped around so much that I thought there was something wrong with the recording.

About half way through I was astonished to learn one of the characters was french... or maybe all of them were since all voiced dialog was in nearly the same pitch and tone as every other.
