Story
On Earth, political tensions boil over between the United Americas, Union of Progressive Peoples, and Three World Empire. Conflict spreads to the outer fringes, and the UK colony of New Albion breaks with the Three World empire. This could lead to a Colony War. Trapped in the middle are journalist Cher Hunt, scientist Chad McLaren, and the synthetic Davis. Cher, seeking to discover who caused the death of her sister, Shy Hunt, uncovers a far bigger story. McLaren’s mission, fought alongside his wife, is to stop the militarization of the deadliest weapon of all—the Xenomorph.

Weirdly Meta but fun
Reviewed: 04-01-23
I've got mixed feelings, and it wasn't just just sunk cost that kept me going. Plot is engaging and i like how it builds on the universe and characters set up in the other books, but it's just like...very on the nose, as it were, which I'm not used to in a piece of Alien(s) media that otherwise gets the important parts (The alien bits) right. The politics are extremely obvious, like there's a guy who's very clearly Space Boris Johnson, and a fair few of the characters definitely feel like tropes I've seen before. Perhaps franchise love is driving me here, idk. It feels so meta without actually breaking the fourth wall that it leaves me conflicted.
also like, idk if it's just because I keep repeating chapters because I zone out and miss information, but some of the dialogue is weirdly repetitive.
Overall, I think I'm satisfied with it, and the book ended up definitely being more than the sum of its parts

Story
The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

Story
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Andy Serkis does a wonderful job with Tolkien's words, making each character come alive. the only issue I have is his occasional mangling of songs.

this is a fun rollicking ride, the narrator has consistent voices for all the characters and keeps the emotional through-line strong. Alexander Freed knows how to balance classic Star Wars space battle action with intense personal drama, and I love it.

Dr. Chelli Lona Aphra, rogue archaeologist, is in trouble again. A pioneer in the field of criminal xenoarchaeology, Aphra recognizes no law, has no fear, and possesses no impulse control. To her, the true worth of the galactic relics she discovers isn’t found in a museum, but in an arsenal. This viewpoint has led to a lot of misunderstandings. After her latest plan goes horribly wrong, her roguish ways are on the verge of catching up to her, when suddenly Darth Vader, terror of the galaxy, swoops in with his lightsaber ignited and...saves her life?

Parts of a bigger story, but super charming!
Reviewed: 07-30-20
This was a really fun story but I couldn’t help but feel at points like I was missing some necessary context. Read the comics for the full story. The performance is spot-on, though. Sarah Kuhn nails every layer of Aphra, and really gets to the emotional core of the character. Would absolutely listen again.
