About this listen

This brand-new unabridged audiobook of The Two Towers, the second part of J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic adventure The Lord of the Rings, is read by the BAFTA award-winning actor, director, and author Andy Serkis.

The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

In my review of the first audiobook, I marveled at the superb read delivered by Andy Sirkus. This second bread surpasses the first. Brilliantly delivered by a master voice actor will precision and skill, it does not disappoint.

The read gets even better

Having read and listened to the books and the old version. Listening to Gollum himself read the books is just incredible. Serkis gives a grade A performance that keeps the listener enthralled.

Andy Serkis is the best.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

Frodo and his Companions of the Ring have been beset by danger during their quest to prevent the Ruling Ring from falling into the hands of the Dark Lord by destroying it in the Cracks of Doom. They have lost the wizard, Gandalf, in a battle in the Mines of Moria. And Boromir, seduced by the power of the Ring, tried to seize it by force. While Frodo and Sam made their escape, the rest of the company was attacked by Orcs. Now they continue the journey alone down the great River Anduin—alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go

Great story, of course, and uncut, but what sets it apart is the narration. Of course Gollum is perfect, but Serkis has a unique voice for each character and does amazingly with each. Some comments have mentioned his singing, but it is a stylistic choice. When you hear the Elves singing it is very melodic, but his singing is based on the voice of his characters. Some are better than others at carrying a tune, and I see why some are unimpressed with the singing, but know going in that it is a conscious decision by a masterful narrator.

Andy Serkis brings it to life

How could anyone make the stories of J.R.R. Tolkien better? Add the perfect narrator. It is easy to become completely immersed.

I have preferred listening to this book rather than reading it because of how emmersive the narrator is
