I have enjoyed this series very much. When this book came out I was excited to continue the adventures of the Americans trapped on an alien planet. While this book does that, it is almost all background fluff, along with detailed lectures on chemistry, economics, naval history, etc. I have sat through college lectures much more exciting than this book. In the 27.5 hours of the book there is essentially 1 battle and the rest is background. I forced myself to sit and listen through it but I wish I hadn't. Watching paint dry would have been much more exciting. I'm fairly certain the author was getting paid by the word on this one.

This is the end of my journey with this series. The book ends on a cliffhanger that promises much, but based on my experience with it, I'm afraid it will be much more fluff and very little else.

I wanted to like this book but just couldn't do it and returned it halfway through. From the insubordinate behavior from "elite" pilots to the author using anti aircraft missiles to try and sink a ship I just couldn't do it anymore. I loved Babylon 5 and hoped this would be in the same light but when you use the real world suspending disbelief is much harder.

What an insult to US military members and veterans

I really wanted to like this book since it was narrated by on e of my favorite narrators but the story really made me mad in it's depiction of members of the delta force. The author used them in this book as nothing more than unthinking killers. You could believe that they would kill Americans overseas as part of an operation but killing Americans on US soil is a bridge too far to believe. Every service member is taught about the uniform code of military justice as part of their basic training. This training also mentions posse comitatus which restricts the use of the US military on US soil. Any member of the military would question assassination orders of an American citizen in an American city.

I also found the main character almost impossible to believe. A middle aged archaeology professor who has a background serving in the national guard has enough tricks up his sleeve to kill members of delta force, evade all forms of surveillance, and trapse across the Atlantic? Did he get all these skills playing video games or reading fantastical fiction like this?

I wouldn't spend your credit or hard earned cash on this novel unless you want a totally unbelievable story to waste your time on.

RC Bray does a fantastic job on narrating this garbage but he could also read the phone book and make it interesting.

I generally like Joshua Gayou's books but this one was very hard to. The entire book felt like nothing more than character building. The real story doesn't even come into play until the last hour of the book. RC Bray's narration is the only reason I stuck with this book until the end.

I don't know how many times the author mentioned Nadia using a contraction. Story tries to be a spy novel and mystery at the same time. It feels like an amateurish attempt at both.

I enjoy science fiction stories but blatant gaffs really turn me off to a story. I was enjoying this story until the author got into weapon ranges. One would assume that spaceships capable of traveling faster than the speed of light would have weapons with a range of more than 100 miles. During the space battle scenes I kept cringing when ranges came into play but by that point I had already committed enough time into the book to just finish it.

I don't know if I can listen to a story by Dean Cole again because of this.

Solomon

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The breaking

Any additional comments?

I was looking for a quick sci-fi book to listen to and stumbled across this book. After I finished this one I got the remainder of the books in the series and listened to them all the way through. I have it playing in the background while I am working and it makes the day go by much faster although I have to admit it may have reduced my productivity at times.
