Story
When patrolman Brandon Hall comes upon a broken-down car on a Colorado highway, he finds a young girl in a bloodied nightgown at the wheel. In the back seat, the brutalized body of a teenage boy. The girl will say only one word: Hurt. When the girl is admitted to the hospital, the doctor on call is Brandon’s ex-wife, Olivia Blake. For Olivia and Brandon, the traumatized Jane Doe opens a floodgate of memories. It’s been four years since they shared their own tragedy—the unsolved disappearance of their eight-year-old daughter, Carly, and the end of their marriage.

Poor character development
Reviewed: 09-28-24
I just couldn’t finish this book. The main character Olivia was ridiculous. The hospital scenes were unrealistic. I didn’t like the story line—bad Hallmark movie material. Predictable. A lot of first reads are poor. Plus the narrator was confusing and hard to listen to.

The story builds slowly with each character adding their own thoughts and emotions. I didn’t get how the watcher was involved until it was revealed in the story. Really good storytelling. A bit too long on the flowers. The narrator is good. I’m glad she didn’t put on male voices and just read the story with nuance. Highly recommend.

With no other clues, the question is, Who else has a debt to pay? Detective Harriet Foster is on the case before the killer can strike again. But even with the help of her partner, Detective Vera Li, and the rest of their team, Harriet has little to go on and a lot at risk. There’s no telling who the killer’s next target is or how many will come next.

I really like the characters in this series, especially Harry. Fast paced, good writing, engaging story. I guessed the murderer about halfway through, but not the reason till near the end. Looking forward to the next in the series. Great narration.

At first I was irritated by Carver’s inability to see everything didn’t revolve around him. I learned how teenage trauma could affect a family. This book is uplifting. There are some over the top moments and even some Hallmark movie moments. All in all I loved it. Great narrator!

This story seems long at times, but the writing is vivid, descriptive, evocative, even poetic. You can see, feel and touch the sights and sounds of the prairie in the story. I loved this story of how life must have been in those times and that place. Beautiful. Highly recommend.

I liked this book but figured out who did it pretty early. Still good though. Pretty annoying narration of Nevada. It sounded flat and too quiet instead of strong and deep like I thought the character should sound. Narration otherwise ok.

When Marilyn Kleinman is caught making out with the rabbi’s son in front of the whole congregation, her parents ship her off to her great-aunt Ada for the summer. If anyone can save their daughter’s reputation, it’s Philadelphia’s strict premier matchmaker. Either that or Marilyn can kiss college goodbye. To Marilyn’s surprise, Ada’s not the humorless septuagenarian her mother described. Not with that platinum-blonde hair, Hermès scarf, and Cadillac convertible. She’s sharp, straight-talking, takes her job very seriously, and abides by her own rules…mostly.
