About this listen

A man who thought he put his shattered past behind him embarks on a reflective journey home in a heartfelt novel by the bestselling author of The Singing Trees and A Spanish Sunrise.

Haunted by a tragic decision he made twenty years ago, veterinarian Dr. Carver Livingston has not once returned to his Vermont hometown. Now his parents’ impending divorce and his mother’s plea for support lure Carver to a reluctant homecoming. His mission: sweep into Teterbury, save a marriage, and get out before anyone else from his past knows he was even there. Fate has other plans.

It’s hard to hide from former friends. Harder still to fight old feelings for the crushing and beautiful high school soulmate whom he dreams of pursuing again. And Mrs. Cartwright, his fragile English teacher, who once pulled Carver out of sadness. She taught him to always look up and to see life’s grander perspective in the stars. Now it’s Carver’s turn to help Mrs. Cartwright find those bright lights in the dark.

Against his need to leave, Carver decides to stay longer, as he, his mother and father, and Mrs. Cartwright are all at turning points in their lives. Hope is not lost. If they look up, they’ll see that tonight, the stars still shine.

Five stars.

Wonderfully told story of forgiveness. This story contains discussions of suicide and infidelity but it’s not done in an overdone way. The author let the reader know forgiveness is possible and necessary to move on with one’s life. Will read more by boo walker.

Not your typical story line

No predictable storylines… realistic characters and emotions… it kept me listening for hours every day..

Weak Character

Lead has the emotional maturity of a toddler-more believable in a 20 year old. Repetitive in his insistence that he is the center of the universe.

Easy enjoyable read

A bit over dramatic at times, but an enjoyable relaxing read, with a great ending.

I like the story, but the main character seems off.

I like the story, and have read many books by this author and usually love their books. I am thrown off by how feminine the main character seems. I like strong, masculine male characters, he is not it for me. There were parts that I felt the main character was being too "childish/pansy" about. He's supposedly in his 30s and his thoughts to himself and even conversations with his best friend seem repeatative, and weak. I kept saying to myself "man up and move on."
I liked the story line, but I could not stay focused due to his character/personality.
I still love this author, and love the diversity in each book, this one, was not my cup of tea.

The Stars Don't Lie

This was my first book by Boo Walker. The story was good! Scott Merriman, the narrator, was excellent.

Whiney and obsessive main character

The main character was so whiney and self-obsessed that it was really hard to take. Arrogance dominated his personality to the extent that he thought his actions were the cause of everyone’s problems and the focus of everyone’s thoughts. Then, when he had his big revelation that maybe this wasn’t the case, his life immediately became over-the-top perfect. Being a teacher myself, I loved that storyline, but even it ultimately went too far to be remotely realistic. I am capable of enjoying a book that stretches things a bit for the sake of a good story, but this was just too far for me.

Fabulous Book!

First, I loved the narrator. He added to characters, and was so pleasant to listen to! Thank you!

The book itself has a full range of emotions, and I felt them all while listening. I enjoyed The Stars Don't Lie IMMENSELY!!

Oh my stars!

Thank you for this wonderful audio book.
Working at an elementary school, it warms my heart to hear a beautiful love story about a teachers impact on her students. Bravo. Also, loving yourself even in our imperfections allows us to love others more.

New Friendships

I fell in love with all of the characters. I wish I lived in Teterbury and were part of the friendship group.

Even though the book has a happy ending there were some serious issues within the storyline. I cried, laughed and cheered while reading this book. I look forward to reading more books by Boo Walker.
