I think I really enjoyed the original concept of this book! it was definitely not the ending I expected so that's a win! I appreciate that Zachary Quinto is fantastic narrator! I think the story carried dept, suspense, flow and excitement.

For nearly four-hundred years, the Veil has protected us from the Fae of Alfheimr. In their absence, our lives have shifted from decadence and sin to survival and virtue under the guidance of the New Gods. I’ve spent my entire life tending to the gardens next to the boundary between our worlds, drawn to the shimmering magic like a moth to the flame. All of that changes the day the Veil shatters, unleashing the fae upon our world once again.

Super Disappointed 😔
Reviewed: 09-14-23
I'll start by saying that this book made me feel like an old lady. that's a prude. I have no problem with super steamy scenes in books. sometimes it can be a beautiful description of passion and beauty and love. This book felt cheap. There was so much sex talk unnecessarily. It was grossly vulgar in a way that wasn't attractive. The main character seemed really simple for a person who suffered trauma, the way that she had. The story was intriguing and then the love interest was introduced. It was so distracting that he was so shallow. It wasn't even the dark and mysterious type of exciting new stranger. he just wanted to have sex with her and called it love not lust...for someone who had sexual trauma, his vulgarity was too much of a contrast for her to have fallen in love with that. It's almost like a man wrote that and not a woman who'd ever experienced any sort of trauma. It didn't even advance the plot whatsoever and is unbelievable that a little bit of lust made this woman who was supposedly trying to find freedom fall in love.
it's a period peice with horses and swords so f** this and D** that was cringe. It became unbearable to keep reading because every time I thought the story was advancing and getting good, it was back to weird graphic talk of his manhood and not actually moving the plot forward. his flirting wasn't good, her response to his flirting wasn't good and the writing was cheap. having read so many other fantasy stories that have a good mix of storytelling and steamy love stories, this just didn't do it for me. And that was disappointing because I heard great things about this book. But the story doesn't move fast enough and comparison to the constant interruptions of wierd "little one"s and "my star"s. 🤢

Struggle to get through
Reviewed: 04-30-23
I think the concept of the book was great but I was not a fan of how slow it was and also a bit predictable. I have never felt so annoyed with a story line before. it's riddled with cliche statements and annoying character flaws like the person never learned and was equally in a relationship with a not great person either so it didn't really accomplish it's goal. Never had a problem with a sneak storyline like this before either but it felt over played idk maybe it was just me 🤷🏾♀️

Story
In her late 30's, Rosaria encountered something that turned her world upside down - the idea that Christianity, a religion she had regarded as problematic, might be right about who God was. That idea seemed to fly in the face of the people and causes that she most loved. What follows is a story of what she describes as a train wreck at the hand of the supernatural. These are her secret thoughts about those events, written as only a reflective English professor could.

Cool conversion story w/ a disjointed second half
Reviewed: 02-10-23
I think the writing is strong, which I expected of a college professor who loves language and reading. Her conversion story at the beginning is beautiful and a great picture of how the Christian Church should love people well. then it takes turn to share some pretty strong convictions of her own regarding marriage, worship, homeschooling and adoption. it feels very much like she was writing two different books. The book could have ended after her portion of marrying her husband and the rest of the book would/should have been a separate book. She's pretty strongly defending certain doctrine that is neither salvific or harmful to the life of a believer so it shouldn't be expressed with such disdain for difference of opinion. Overall it was challenging in good areas and has others I could do without. Know what you're getting into when you listen. She has a fantastic book I have already read so I thought this would be as well but from one writer to another, maybe this wasn't the one 🤷🏾♀️

It's a familiar tale: A kind and beautiful young girl, reeling from loss. A doting father, frantic to bring a mother's love back into his daughter's life. And the selfish, cruel woman who insinuates herself into that family - a woman so unfeeling, so cold hearted, that when her new husband dies, she makes the girl a servant in her own home.

much better than expected. I have not been the biggest fan of Cinderella's story. And I was a little concerned because of the lack of connection to the other stories until the end in cruella that this would be the same. this turned out to be a wonderful story that was full of believable. wonderful! little details that really made the story complete. Loved the previous narrator from the beginning of the series better, but she did fine.

I will say that I love this series but I do agree with some others that said the end feels rushed. the odd sisters grew to be my favorite of the series and I couldn't wait to hear their story but then it felt like so much was coming and then it just ended. I had to go back and listen again because I thought I'd missed something...I still don't have some answers I was seeking but the twist of this story was still brilliant and I didn't see it coming! that's a win!

Story
What is the story of the dark fairy, Maleficent? Why does she curse the innocent princess? What led to her becoming so filled with malice, anger, and hatred? Many tales have tried to explain her motives. Here is one account, pulled down from the many passed down through the ages. It is a tale of love and betrayal, of magic and reveries. It is a tale of the mistress of all evil.

each book adds a little more to the story. I've never been the biggest fan of maleficent's story, but I really did enjoy what they did with her character and how it all tied together with some of the other amazing characters in the previous books. definitely worth the read
