Good Starter Course

This course introduces you to Italian by giving you some essential tourist vocabulary and enough grammar to construct some simple sentences of the kind you might really need: the usual, such as introductions, reserving rooms and tables, seeing a doctor, etc. I like Paul Noble's courses because he uses spaced repetition to drill the basics into your head and his way of building sentences is very intuitive--I wish more language programs used his method of teaching sentence building. On a European scale, this course takes you a good way into level 1A. It's a beachhead into the language, basically, which will allow you to go farther with a good foundation. I'd recommend using "Easy Italian" on Youtube and possibly Coffee Break Italian as well if you want to get through A level and farther and just assume it is going to take several months--up to a year--to accomplish that. As my Spanish teacher says, poco a poco. I only have a couple months before my trip to Italy, so, Paul Noble is my pick for the fastest way into Italian that will stick with me, but I'm using the other two programs I've mentioned above as well.

One of the most unusual and imaginative stories I have ever encountered. The prose is matter of fact and deeply beautiful. It needs to be read or heard multiple times—my first impression is that I’m astounded by its beauty.

Paul Noble has the best language books and audio of anyone I've found when it comes to getting you into a language fast. The best thing about "Learn French" is that it is all aural. When you set French spelling aside at the beginning and just concentrate on pronunciation, that language becomes much easier, much simpler to learn. And with Noble's method, you won't feel like your memorizing a language but acquiring it. I've used Babel, Rocket French, and Ouino, so I've spent some money. But Noble's out does them all at the beginning. For your first three or four months of French, go with this course in a 50/50 mix with Coffee Break French, and you will zoom.
