A great ending for Cordelia
Reviewed: 12-27-23
I loved this story for it’s the characters’ personal interactions. It’s now become one of my favorites. Yes there are no major wars or espionage crises going on, but this slice of life story is compelling and completely enjoyable all the same.

Humorous introduction to Latinx history
Reviewed: 05-28-21
This was a real well done introduction to the massive contributions that Latinx community has given to the USA from even before Europeans came to the Americas. Combine this with a touching story of a dad struggling to help his son be proud of their heritage and this is definitely a great read.

An great story, fast paced and engaging, with well developed characters. The leading female protagonist, Cordelia, is my hands down favorite in all literature. Her strength of will and character is amazing. I adore this series, the character, and the author. Definitely recommend this book.

Story
Leo Graf was just your average highly efficient engineer: mind your own business, fix what's wrong, and move on to the next job. But all that changed on his assignment to the Cay Habitat, where a group of humanoids had been secretly, commercially bioengineered for working in free fall. Could he just stand there and allow the exploitation of hundreds of helpless children merely to enhance the bottom line of a heartless mega-corporation?

Wonderful prequel to the series.

This was a very enjoyable story. While not directly part of the Vorkosigan series (it take place decades before the Vorkosigan Saga), it helps flush out that universe and gives you a better understanding of Diplomatic Immunity’s Graf Station, Nicole (the Quaddie musician from an earlier story), and the Quaddies the people as a whole. Grover Gardner once again did an amazing job as a narrator. Definitely worth the purchase

Great story but what happened to the narration
Reviewed: 05-11-21
This was a delightful story. It was wonderful to hear Ekaterin in a tale all her own. But I was put off by the narration. Grover Gardner is usually so fabulous, yet here his voice lacked its usual energy. Also the voices blended, not as distinct as they usually are. Enrique out and out lost his accent—more often than not sounding exactly like Miles, so when the two were part of the same conversation it was confusing. I was actually worried Gardner was sick in real life and went to Google if he was okay. Even still it was worth the money and a great addition to the Vorkosigan Saga.

Story
Professional heroes kill and loot deadly monsters every day, but Gorm Ingerson's latest quest will be anything but business as usual. The adventuring industry drives the economy of Arth, a world much like our own but with more magic and fewer vowels. Monsters' hoards are claimed, bought by corporate interests, and sold off to plunder funds long before the Heroes' Guild actually kills the beasts. That's a terrible arrangement for the Shadowkin; orcs, goblins, kobolds, and their ilk must apply for to become Noncombatant Paper Carriers to avoid being killed and looted by heroes.

Story
From breakout stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger comes a subversively funny collection of essays and observations on a confident woman's approach to friendship, singlehood, and relationships. "Girl Logic" is Iliza's term for the way women obsess over details and situations that men don't necessarily even notice. She describes it as a characteristically female way of thinking that appears to be contradictory and circuitous but is actually a complicated and highly evolved way of looking at the world.

The story was great, the reader was okay
Reviewed: 02-25-20
I love Lois McMaster Bujold as an author. Her stories are fabulous and so is this one. The reader did not do the story justice. She has a very beautiful voice, but she doesn’t have the knack of a great reader: the range of her characters are limited so it can get confusing on who is speaking and the reading often times comes off stiff. The reading wasn’t so bad that I didn’t want to abandon the story, but it definitely wasn’t in the same league as Grover Gardner where I could just get lost in the story.
