Story
Most diet books teach you to set short-term weight loss goals. Whether low-carb or low-fat, the typical plan goes like this: restrict your food choices, exercise until exhaustion, and swallow stacks of supplements. These “solutions” do a better job of lightening your wallet than lightening you. Meanwhile, the healthcare industry fails to prevent chronic disease. Rather than showing people how to remain healthy and prevent illness through proper nutrition, the system offers drugs and surgery to manage symptoms.

Story
Born a generation apart and with very different ideas about love and family, Mariam and Laila are two women brought jarringly together by war, by loss, and by fate. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them, in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul, they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation.

A heart wrenching yet beautiful story!

I loved it. It was one of those stories where I just HAD to finish it. The story is beautifully narrated and shares the lives of a war torn country and its history. of pain. love lost, but found again. I caught myself almost crying at the end and now I am grieving the end of this book. I'm not sure how I came to find this story, but I am so glad I got to experience it. Highly recommend!

What makes stepmothering so hard? And why are we, as people and a culture, so hard on stepmothers? How can we make it easier? Stepmonster is a truly unique and groundbreaking book for women with stepchildren, men with kids who repartner, adult stepchildren, and anyone who cares about them. It is a comprehensive, cross-cultural, research-based reconsideration of stepfamily dynamics - from the perspective of the stepmother.

This book was everything I didnt know I needed. I've been a stepmother for over 10 years, and this book really "gets" the thoughts and feelings that are hard to explain except for those who are fellow stepmoms!

7 books definitely took me a while but, wow, how informative! I wouldn't give 5 stars as some of the narrator's voices were not appealing and sounded robotic, however, they all provided great knowledge for each topic.
