Story
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Epic, inspirational

Without a doubt, this book will go down as one of the best I’ve read in my lifetime. The scope is huge, from descriptions of the northwest, the depression, Nazi Germany, rowing, and individual people...all perfectly woven together. It is inspirational and has left me with a sense of awe and a yearning to learn more about other areas mentioned in the book. Highly recommended.

Great, wholesome true story, full of hard work ethic. Enough grit, adventure and boy shenanigans to capture my 13 year old mixed with excellent wisdom without feeling preachy to really make me sit back and take note. Enjoyable.

Our family loved this book. We devoured it, making excuses to all be quietly together in the same room to listen. My boys say I should mention that I cried during the book...more than once.
