Story
Once in a great while a writer comes along who can truly capture the drama and passion of the life of a family. David James Duncan, author of the novel The River Why and the collection River Teeth, is just such a writer. And in The Brothers K he tells a story both striking and in its originality and poignant in its universality.

I loved these books. An amazing story through and through. I just wish he would have elaborated more on Peter’s journey home from India. Other than that a fantastic listen!

Story
Drawing on previously hidden historical documents and interviews with the long-silent "illegitimate" branch of the family, William J. Mann paints an elegant, meticulously researched, and groundbreaking group portrait of this legendary family. Mann argues that the Roosevelts' rise to power and prestige was actually driven by a series of intense personal contests that at times devolved into blood sport. His compelling and eye-opening masterwork is the story of a family at war with itself, of social Darwinism at its most ruthless.

This is exactly what I needed. I have listened to many of Frank Ostaseski lectures and was very happy to stumble upon this book. This is a very thought provoking book and something we all should be better attuned to. I hope that it helps me be more fully open to life.

Story
When 20-year-old Jay Mohr moved to New York City, he never thought he would land his first real job on Saturday Night Live. But he did - and what followed were two crazy years of trying to keep up with his talented cast mates and get on the air as often as possible. Jay offers an intimate first-person account of the inner workings of Saturday Night Live - the audition, the pitch meetings, and how skits make the final cut of the show. Jay also dishes on the guest hosts, the musical guests, and, of course, his cast mates.

A good look into the inner workings of SNL.
I liked the story. What I didn’t like is after a while it just sounded like he was whining.
In one sentence he says he opted out of a bailiff part because he had no lines then the next sentence he said “I’m just trying to get on air!”
Must not be trying too hard since he just turned down an on air appearance as a bailiff. Then skipping the good nights. Sounded like whining and entitlement.

Was hoping it followed the movie more. But instead delved into 60s Hollywood more. Not sure why Tarantino chose to feature a convicted Pedophile (James Stacy) to costar in this novel. Or why he put so much emphasis on the 8 year old girl, and her demand Rick Dalton Marry her, after listening to the book those parts in the movie are just creepy.

Story
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it.
