Story
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Kept my interest but the science....Spoiler alert

I actually did not mind the narrator's somewhat pontific voice. It kind of fit the drama of the whole situation. What I did not get was how could any kind of biologic substance survive being embedded in radioactive material and then being burned up by lava? That seemed awfully farfetched to me. And I cannot believe that pilots with any brains whatsoever would have let people to talk them into flying helicopters so close to an erupting volcano so that everybody dies. I am Vulcan allergists continued to go away too close to the eruptions. Really?

At last, listeners can experience Edward's version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun. This unforgettable tale as told through Edward's eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire.

I found the perspective of Edward’s point of view very interesting, for about 8 hours of listening. The narrator was good. It just moved too slowly to keep my interest. Quit without finishing.

I really liked the first couple of novels about the memory man, but I found this one really tedious. There was a lot of preaching about fracking and global terrorism. There was a lot of stilted dialogue. There were several totally improbable scenarios where the partaken is defeated dozens of armed men.Too much of it was not about Decker; I really liked his character and the other novels.

Almost a Spoof

Is there anything you would change about this book?
If the trials and tribulations the character faced had not been so over the top, it would have been a better story. Driving a car at high speed to save the children, after being shot, having broken ribs, after being stabbed, etc etc, while being sewn up by a vet tech and transfused with blood stolen from a medical clinic... Really? Put me in mind of Max Mayhem from The Fault in our Stars.
What was most disappointing about Mark Greaney’s story?
The story involved a top assassin who was targeted for assassination himself, and he managed to escape at least seven impossible situations and persevere. It was almost comically unbelievable. The bad guys who were after him kept managing to kill each other.
Was The Gray Man worth the listening time?
Sort of, it was entertaining if not taken too seriously.

Any additional comments?
I love the era and the setting. I could see shadows of several Jane Austen stories in the characters. It was a little hard to keep some of the male characters straight; there were quite a few suitors. Overall it was an enjoyable escape.

Not a Happy Story

What made the experience of listening to The Wicked Girls the most enjoyable?
It was hard to feel much sympathy to the two women for almost the whole way through. It seemed they got what they deserved. Finding out there was more to it at the end was good.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Sympathetic.
Any additional comments?
It was not that enjoyable, just a really dark story all around, redeemed to some extent by the end.
