Story
Snatched from a normal life, a young boy is thrust into a harsh existence of brutal training, learning he was taken not because he is skilled (he most certainly is not), but because he possesses an incredibly rare gift among his kind. The ability to steal a magic user’s power. A talent that could one day see him join the elite ranks of the galaxy’s greatest assassins. But first he must not only unlock this seemingly impossible power, but also succeed at what many aspirants fail. He must survive.

The beginning of greatness
Reviewed: 09-12-24
The Bawb series was an emotional roller coaster for someone who has read the “Space Assassins” series and the “Bad Luck Charlie” series. For readers that haven’t, this series will open to door to a fantastic universe I haven’t seen the likes of in any other fictional works! I would however recommend the “Space Assassins” books before this series as they lend a lot of character development and backstory to the Bawb series as well as emotional attachment to those characters. Well done, absolutely well done.

Story
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Bawb knew he would face the latter far more often than the former. But this was his life now. His destiny. Surviving his indoctrination into the elite order of assassins had been a challenge unlike any he had ever faced in his young life. It had been brutal, violent, and painful, but he’d made it past those initial hurdles. If he wanted to excel, however, to reach his true potential, he would need something more—a competitive edge of some sort.

Story
Years of training flew by in a whirlwind blur of sweat and blood, and Bawb had excelled like no other in recent memory, shaped into a Ghalian of extraordinary skill under the tutelage of one of the finest their order had ever produced. But even the most talented were not invulnerable. A traitor was in their midst, and the elite assassins found themselves on the defensive, working hard to unearth the lurking rot and excise them with brutal efficiency.

Story
Revenge was the sort of temptation a master assassin would never succumb to. But when one decides to make an exception things can get very ugly. Many years had elapsed since Bawb ascended to the ranks of the elite Master Ghalian, but his upward climb was not yet complete. A mysterious hint of greater things to come lingered, but despite his best efforts and all manner of challenges, he was still in the dark as to what exactly that might be.

Story
The dragons are gone, leaving behind their essence for those who follow. Firewater is sacred. Touched by the power of the dragons, those who consume it can become more like those ancient beings. Most become dragon forged, their bodies strengthened to help fight the dangerous creatures attacking the valley. But firewater didn’t change Rob. When invaders threaten to destroy his people, what Rob discovers may save all he cares about—and provide the key to forging his own power. Dragon Forged is book 1 in an exciting new progression fantasy series!

I actually enjoyed the story though I think I would have enjoyed it more if it was narrated by an actual person. The virtual narrator was so flat and emotionless. Didn’t emphasize at the right times or differentiate between characters which made it seem poorly written though I’m sure it really was just the AI. Want to read the next book but not sure I will if not done with a real narrator.
