Story
From CSI to Forensic Files to the celebrated reputation of the FBI crime lab, forensic scientists have long been mythologized in American popular culture as infallible crime solvers. Juries put their faith in "expert witnesses", and innocent people have been executed as a result. Innocent people are still on death row today, condemned by junk science.

Crazy that people were killed based on junk science

Interesting mix of cases and the rise and fall of some parts of forensic science.

Story
Inextricably linked with the fatwa called against its author in the wake of the novel’s publication, The Satanic Verses is, beyond that, a rich showcase for Salman Rushdie’s comic sensibilities, cultural observations, and unparalleled mastery of language. The book begins with two Indians plummeting from the sky after the explosion of their airliner, and proceeds through a series of metamorphoses, dreams and revelations.

Delicious

The language and characters in this book are simply amazing. The use of Indian context, right down to cineblitz magazine or the tone of the Zamindar are all pure gold. The story is parallel where reality and fantasy are mixed and often hard to keep straight. But the narration and characters made one want to come right back to it and there was a frisson of excitement when you connected pieces. Do I get it all in the end? No and that's what is so exciting. I will chew over what this means for a long time. What it means may be what the author intended or something else. It reminds me of seeing a painting at a museum. You make what you will based on the title but also a lot more if it speaks to you.
