About this listen

From CSI to Forensic Files to the celebrated reputation of the FBI crime lab, forensic scientists have long been mythologized in American popular culture as infallible crime solvers. Juries put their faith in "expert witnesses", and innocent people have been executed as a result. Innocent people are still on death row today, condemned by junk science.

In 2012, the Innocence Project began searching for prisoners convicted by junk science, and three men, each convicted of capital murder, became M. Chris Fabricant's clients. Junk Science and the American Criminal Justice System chronicles the fights to overturn their wrongful convictions and to end the use of the "science" that destroyed their lives. Weaving together courtroom battles from Mississippi to Texas to New York City and beyond, Fabricant takes the listener on a journey into the heart of a broken, racist system of justice and the role forensic science plays in maintaining the status quo.

At turns gripping, enraging, illuminating, and moving, Junk Science is a meticulously researched insider's perspective of the American criminal justice system. Previously untold stories of wrongful executions, corrupt prosecutors, and quackery masquerading as science animate Fabricant's true crime narrative.

Must read for true crime fans and prospective jurors.

You'll never look at the "science" and "experts" in all those netflix specials of Forensic Files episodes the same way again.

Forensic Science as Forensic Astrology

Powerful read. Horrible cases where junk science put the wrong man in jail for decades for disgusting crimes. Applause to Innocence and to Chris.

Forensic Files is fiction

Every forensic technique except DNA is in reliable. The criminal justice system is broken and a slave to junk science.

Fascinating look at the injustice of our judicial system

Some really heart wrenching stories and inexplicable legal decisions. A must read if you’re interested in those wrongfully convicted.

Should be required reading for anyone on a jury

The most valiant lawyers work for the innocence project. The work they do helps us all. We need to improve the system so that innocent people are not prosecuted. True science is provable and stands up to criticism. Some methods currently in use are no more valid then those used in witch trials from the 1600. Main focus is on bite marks that are as accurate as bones in a hat or clouds in the sky.

Eye-opening and tragic

Eye-opening to the underlying politics and pride within the system that is supposed to uphold justice rather than the hubris of man.
