What a great book, again I was excited, intrigued, laughing uncontrollably and with the odd tear or two.
And Zara is the greatest.

Not what I hoped for

I was intrigued by the description, and as I am always on the lookout for new series I started this book. I usually switch between reading and listening (driving 3 hours to and from work). The performance could use some improving, maybe it's technical, but the sound fades so you have to rewind and listen again. As for the writing, the characters lack development which is to be expected in a first book. I didn't really warm to the main character and was surprised by another DS introduced about halfway. Two or maybe 3 subplots as if the author couldn't really make up his mind about what story he wanted to tell.
TBH I don't think I'll read any more of this series.

Great beginning

Extremely well paced, with flashback to the past of the MC, very good secondary characters and with the right amount of fantasy mixed with the investigation. The movie is available on netflix but the book is much better.
I did not particularly like the performance, not really a spanish pronunciation, the classic "z" is missing and some words are pronounced wrong.
Looking forward to the next two books.

Definitely another great book in the Kim Stone series. Lots of plot twists and the resolution is unexpected yet Angela Marsons makes it work. Can't wait for the next one.

Nightmare
Reviewed: 10-28-20
Evidently, the loss of your partner and newborn child is a nightmare, but nothing compared to the writing and the narrator.
The characters are flat, lacking depth and annoying. The story takes forever to unfold and lacks credibility. Alas, not for me.

I wasn't able to finish it. It's a slow nightmare. I'm a big fan of british detectives, but no matter how hard I tried I found it impossible to empathize with DI Thorne. The premise of the book is interesting, locked-in syndrome is too scary to think about but it was all a fruitless effort. Won't be reading or listening to any more.
