Love the series

This entire series has been so fun to listen to. The narrator is excellent as always, great range/variety. The MC is stupidly OP yet somehow they keep making the story intriguing despite his lack of any sort of true challenge.

Story
Dare and his party have defeated the sinister final boss of Gurzan's Last Hold and are taking a break to regroup and deal with the incredible treasures they've found before completing the rest of the dungeon. Yet in doing so he runs into a snag dealing with the Shalin Counting Houses, a presence in almost every city and most large towns on the continent. His consort Marigold has been vague about her past, but it seems to involve the counting houses in some way. And she warns him her troubles may prove a danger to her, their son together, and possibly the whole family. So while juggling ...

Fun story with some irritants
Reviewed: 04-03-24
The book was pretty fun up to this point. However, the sex scenes got quite tiresome. Every single race being “ethereally beautiful” and “super tight” got hilariously annoying. Also some times too much detail makes it less interesting. The AI narration is pretty lame and steals a lot of the fun of the story.

Story
Ashlock wakes in the courtyard of a demonic sect... as a tree. A tree that eats people. An odd start to a new life. Almost as strange as the humans flying through the skies on flaming swords and challenging the heavens. After all, this is a world where humans could chase the goal of immortality through the art of cultivation. But Ashlock is merely a sapling in a desolate courtyard, left alone with his thoughts and unable to speak to those passing him by. Unless he does something about it.

Interesting but exceptionally dull

The story is intriguing and worth a credit. However having listened to countless series in the genre it’s lackluster. The action is sparse and the cultivation hard to envision and is said to be difficult but never seems so for the MC

I have gone through hundreds of hours of litrpgs. This one starts off decently and carried on well but there didn’t seem to be anything that specifically jumped out at me as exciting. The book was a great listen as Luke’s performance and ability to bring characters to life is superb as usual. I may revisit the book again and try to move forward with the series.

Slow start, stellar finish

Being 100% honest the beginning of this book is a serious snooze fest. But once it gets rolling it is exceptionally captivating. Not too more Roman e but there is a nice splash of it, along with the usual fights and unrealistic growth compared to their peers but the fighting styles are super fun and the use of power is an intriguing blend of formulas I’ve seen before in other books I love.

It’s honestly a very fun series to follow! It’s very different in so many aspects. The “magic” is different, the flow is different and seeing the same story from two different POV’s is weird but was very entertaining.

Hilariously entertaining

To be frank the book starts off rather slow the plot setup seemed broken but once the main story kicks off after the main character having a random stroke of luck the rest flows superbly. The different view points of multiple characters honestly brought everything together because it’s what made everything so darn funny. The rpg segments don’t make that much sense but that isn’t the best part of this book. The strategy and clumsy way he seems to succeed while others mistake it for genius is, for lack of a better word, genius 😂
