unessential reading for a great series
Reviewed: 11-17-21
while just as good as any of Herbert's writing, the plot itself is a sort of tag on to the first book. if not for a few spoilers that carry into the third book, you cutoff almost skip this one and not miss much. sort of a dune 1.5. but if you really loved the first one and wanna go balls deep into the dune universe, you'll have fun with this book.
as far as the voice acting, i really wish they were more consistent with which narrator they used. there's a few powerful scenes done by a younger narrator that doesn't give it much gravitas which is disappointing. but overall it didn't bother me that much. hers hoping the movie drums up enough interest for a new fully casted audiobook series.

Story
The complete collection of landmark BBC Radio dramas of Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe mysteries. Philip Marlowe is the archetypal noir detective: wisecracking and world weary, hard boiled yet honourable. This volume includes all eight dramatisations of Raymond Chandler's groundbreaking crime novels featuring his iconic hero.

great performance

voice acting and recording are absolutely top notch, but the stories are heavily shortened, though it's to be expected fora radio drama. I'd give my right arm for an unabridged series done as well.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Nothing like the frakenstein I knew
Reviewed: 06-01-18
I've always been a sucker for novels written in the romantic period, and this story did not disappoint. Shelley had a way of describing the thoughts and emotions of the main characters and i found myself relating to many of them (though I'm probably one of few who have little sympathy for the monster). I feel a little cheated that the Frakenstein i grew up knowing was nothing like the original.
The performance was also near perfection. I believed every moment, and the quality of the recording was great.

Story
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

if you are well up on your Norse myths, these stories will have little surprises for you, but the masterful storytelling that Gaiman is known for shines throughout. He brings the myths out of the foreign and strange world of the past and makes them feel real. Whether an old Norse enthusiast or a stranger in the world of the Aesir, this book will be a delight.
