Toxic Empathy

Story
In Toxic Empathy, Allie Beth Stuckey argues that empathy has become a tool of manipulation by left-wing activists who bully people into believing that they must adopt progressive positions to be loving. She explores the five most heated issues through which toxic empathy is deployed: abortion, gender, sexuality, immigration, and social justice. Progressives use catchy mantras to present their perspective as empathetic, like “abortion is healthcare,” “love is love,” or “no human being is illegal,” but in each case, they ignore the other side of the moral equation.

Clear message.

I liked how she used common sense and life examples to topple toxic empathy. It wasn’t heavy on the scripture quotes. I’m nota Christian.

The Dilemma of Depth Psychology in Relation to Social Change

Story
Hillman refers to soul as “a perspective rather than a substance, a viewpoint toward things rather than a thing itself”. The value of seeing beneath, between, and beyond to achieve new perspectives for learning, integration, transformation, and growth was a personal challenge for Hillman, who claimed depth psychology can be summed up in one excerpt from Heraclitus: “You could not discover the limits of the soul (psyche), even if you traveled every road to do so; such is the depth…of its meaning."

I am a liberal, non-christian, gay friendly, straight, white man who is searching for information to make sense of transgenderism. In this audio I have found it. I have been searching many sources but have not been satisfied until now. Matt Walsh has done a lot of research both interviewing and looking up the history and statistics of transgenderism. This audio is informative but not boring. I have my answers now.

Story
In Trickster Makes This World, Lewis Hyde brings to life the playful and disruptive side of human imagination as it is embodied in trickster mythology. He first visits the old stories—Hermes in Greece, Eshu in West Africa, Krishna in India, Coyote in North America, among others—and then holds them up against the lives and work of more recent creators: Picasso, Duchamp, Ginsberg, John Cage, and Frederick Douglass. Twelve years after its first publication, Trickster Makes This World has taken its place among the great works of modern cultural criticism.

I tried reading the paperback version of this book twice but it was quite a slog. Sensing that there’s a treasure of gold in this book, I tried the audiobook version. What a difference! With a lively narrator, this massive information becomes a college course taught by an engaging story teller. Listening to this audiobook (although long) was enjoyable and well worth the money and the time.

Story
Throughout our lives, we have read and wondered about the miracles of Jesus. But to how many of us has the thought come that this same power must be available to everyone? We have been so accustomed to thinking of Jesus as a man filled with love and compassion and human kindness that we have overlooked something else about him that is equally important. Jesus had access to a spiritual power that he used in every way.

This book is a needed gulp of living water in an arid world of fundamentalism blocking a real moving faith! You can either cling to your beliefs as in clinging to a rock. But as a rock remains static, your faith will turn static. Faith as trust moves with life’s ups and downs. Trust flows.
