This story is so tenderly told. Nic has shared such insight into the world experienced by many of today’s youth. I know many Tres. I read this book with my granddaughter and Nic Stone and Jason Reynold’s book have provided bonding for us.

Finding Me was an intimate look into the soul and journey of a deeply spiritual woman, artist. It took me deeper into my own journey as a Black Woman. The writing is compelling on its own and as the artist narrates her life, on is also treated to a lyrical performance. Outstanding.

Smokey Robinson is ageless and timeless. He, like Stevie Wonder, are the prolific poets of the Motown era and beyond. He narrates and alternately serenades. This was a memorable date

I enjoyed this book with its multiple intersecting plot lines. Baldacci has a way of helping make sense of much of the headlines that leave me scratching my head. Without a spoiler I will just say I’m looking forward to more adventures with FBI AGENT ASHLEY Pine.

I have read many books by Baldacci in fact he’s one of the reasons I switched from writing Romance to the Mystery genre. One Good Deed was a departure from his typical fast paced style. I read some bad reviews and hesitated. I’m usually hooked in the first or second chapters- it took me 14 chapters to decide to finish this book and I did so only because it was Baldacci. It was a sweet departure from his norm set after WW I. It brought us to a time when language was more nuanced but the themes are timeless. His descriptions were vivid enough to capture younger readers but I felt this book was aimed at a mature audience. The story is elegant with mysterious details and the ending made me cry. He also created a hero that can live beyond one book like Will Robie, Amos Decker. I couldn’t give him a five because of the slow start but it’s a solid four in my book.

I just completed and enjoyed Ebony Roberts book “The Love Prison Made and Unmade ...” Memoirs are painful to write and I am grateful she shared her story - the fairytale and the sobering reality. For me, Ebony has answered questions. I have followed Shaka and the saga of her connection to Shaka Senghor, a man who spent almost two decades in prison and rose to gain national attention from his memoir NY Times Bestseller “Writing My Wrongs,” appearances on Oprah Winfrey’s programs and his TED talk. I have wanted to know the woman behind the man. Her book “The Love Prison Made and Unmade ...” has clearly answered many of those questions. Secondly, Ebony has tapped uncharted territory. She has opened the door on a topic most never consider, let alone discuss. There are hundreds of thousands of Black men caged. The mass incarceration of our men is, in my opinion, a continuation of slavery. So how do we engage these men who we need as community assets. How are women to love them? Can women love them? Can women trust them? Can they return to society and truly love us? Ebony has opened the door to a much broader discussion. Bravo Sister!

A strong social commentary on the Opioid Crisis

In “The Fallen” Baldacci takes a look at the economic factors that have ravaged small towns and rural America. The death of manufacturing, the poor education system that has left many good people behind and caused the kind of hopeless that fuels substance abuse and acts of planned desperation. The research and details were amazing. The storyline was compelling and gave me a deeper perspective on not only the opioid crisis but the economic and social issues this country needs to address or fall from internal decay.

I am a new Karin Slaughter reader and should perhaps read some of her earlier books. I was introduced to (and began to like) the characters Charlie, Ben and Rusty in Slaughter’s short story First Breath which ended abruptly. I liked the complex “twisty” plot and the irony that surfaced between some of the characters. While the conclusion tied everything up neatly, there was violence in the story that made me have to put the book down several times. Also in patches the details were overbearing. Finally, as woman raised in a metropolitan city I ended up hoping I never have to stop for gas in a town like Pikesville.

This was my first Karin Slaughter novel. No to spoil but there were a couple of surprises that made this a good read (audible).I enjoyed it and particularly liked the way the ending obviously leads into the next novel. There were a lot of details that felt laborious and it took me restarting a few times to finish.
