But after she and Nina host their first dinner party—attended by Luke, the flirtatious IT guy who'd been chatting her up at the bar—her carefully built world is shattered. I hope this is the first of a trilogy!

Nora Roberts didn’t disappoint. Loved the book, loved the characters, love the way the dialog flows. There is just something about how Roberts puts words together that resonates with me and I look forward to each new release both as herself and as JD Robb.

Story
The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

One of the best books I've listened to!
Reviewed: 06-12-16
I frequently complete the star ratings for books but seldom write a review. This one deserves the words, though mine will be inadequate. Everything about this book was eloquent - from the writing to the narration. The story of two French sisters and how they contributed to and survived WWII in two very different ways was at times heart breaking and always compelling. A must read, must listen book.

Compelling Listen

I have listened to all of Kate Morton's books and they are all equally excellent. Her ability to build characters, and move the listener/reader from the past to the present is superb. I would highly recommend her books to everyone.

Not what I was expecting
Reviewed: 09-10-07
The narrator of this book has a wonderful, rich voice that I enjoyed listening to. However, the content of the book was far more sexually graphic than I was expecting. I ordered it because the premise sounded fun. A modern day woman is transported back to 18th century Paris and falls in love. The text had the characters going from one graphic sexual scene to another, with little else in between. If you enjoy listening to erotica than I suspect you would find this book entertaining. It was not to my taste and I chose not to listen to the 2nd part of the book.
