Story
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

A little cheezy but interesting concept.
Reviewed: 12-11-22
The concept is pretty cool. But the universe constructed in this book doesn’t make much sense and feels not well researched. New humanoid species capable of flight seem to have evolved in a couple of centuries. I know is sci-fi, but it feels a little rushed. That being said, the story is fun and quick paced. It relies on the cliched hero who wants to die but can’t storyline, but since the concept of hell divers is refreshing I enjoyed it.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Cringe Galore

Terribly cheesy. Semi-interesting since. Abysmal story writing.
Andy Wier makes a half hearted attempt to recreate the Martian experience. The story is incredibly boring and the dialogue is juvenile. The main character (Jazz Bashara) has the likability of warm beer. She makes a series of bad decisions, each one more stupid than the last. Then makes plans to solve each mistake. Somehow her skills and intelligence grow exponentially over the course of the book (which expands only about a week).
Overall, avoid the book if you can.

Excellent, with a slight error.

Sector 64 is a nice twist on your usual alien contact story. It was an enjoyable listen and the technological advancement are quite fascinating, albeit a little over the top (even for a sci-fi). That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the imagined tech.
The slight complaint I have is regarding the over-dramatization towards the end. That change in writing doesn’t conform to the overall tone of the book. Hence, the 4 star.
Other than that, I loved every second of it. And as always - RC Bray is joy to listen to.

Story
The galaxy’s predominant species discovers a lost colony of their ancestors - humans - populating today’s Earth. Then, our genetic link draws the attention and enmity of their galactic rivals. When a plan to elevate present-day Earth leads to an alien invasion, a team of military officers may be all that stands between humanity and certain annihilation. Independence Day meets The X-Files when Air Force fighter pilots Jake Giard and Sandra Fitzpatrick join a decades-old secret project to integrate today's Earth into a galactic government.

A secret buried in the Antarctic. A puzzle unsolved for thousands of years. And a Brooklyn-born master gunnery sergeant who's royally pissed that he has to babysit the researchers sent to figure it all out. But when Patrick "Wic" Finnegan finally sees what the team has uncovered, he can't believe his eyes, nor is he prepared for the violence to come. Soon, the portal opens and unleashes a storm of unbridled fury upon humanity.

If Michael Bay wrote a book

Terrible terrible terrible. This is perhaps the worst book I have ever had the displeasure of listening to. The story is a cliche. The dialogue is cringey, and there is casual islamophobia too.
This story is what you get if you fill testosterone in a AR15 and spray it everywhere. The author realizes that the book lacks material and mentions that the plot sounds like an 80s action movie. This to me is lazy writing and would add that the book sounds like a terrible 80s movie.
The detailed description of every weapon gets old very quickly. There is no time spent on building the characters. I understand the books starts off in a crisis, so it’s difficult to have a proper character build up. But this author is just lazy.
The only saving grace is the narration by RC Bray.

Great story, horrible naration
Reviewed: 10-25-20
The narrator has butchered the story. Her voice acting is the real sin here. Her attempts at doing an ethereal voice, just makes the main character sound sensual. The way she talks about Draupadi’s brother has a weirdly uncomfortable incestuous tone about it.
The story is a masterpiece that has been destroyed by the worst voice actor on audible.
