I nearly gave up several times on this book when information on the two main characters never continued to evolve with the plot. So their actions often made no sense Although the drama that shaped their character was sketched in just enoug

h to make their inclusion in this story suspenseful, that's as far as it goes. None of the initial questions put forth about who the title
character is- are answered. The remainder of this drama is well written, but doesn't pass the sniff test for a thriller. The side plots are simply dropped to await a sequel.

I miss the talented author who would never have allowed a lame plot like this to form the basis of one of her books. Listening to this story plod along with it's elementary understanding of technology makes one wonder if her teenager wrote it for English class and Lisa put her name on it.

His protagonist, X, is carefully fleshed out, giving giving the listener moments to see him clearly as human being before he steps back into his survivalism. And he didn't have him do stupid things that are anti common sense! well scripted action scenes were so easy to visualize. Loved it, and sorry it ended.

the narrator's Le Cagot voice sounded like the voice of that Great Dane cartoon character. Or that of an individual talking with a mouth full of marbles in baby talk. Otherwise a great read.

Most "thrillers" neglect character development in their books, instead substituting detailed descriptions of weapons, repetitive and inane dialogs, gratuitous sex scenes, and other filler. John Hart's characters feel real, and their actions are understandable, if not logical. All the elements of a good thriller, performed so expertly, I was transported into the town and could see it all played out before me. I was sorry it had to end!

A Good Book for Those Tired of The Same Old Plots

4 out of 5 stars

This book rates an ok mainly because it didn't follow the tiresome , predictable, and annoying formula that hacks use. Usually they include some trite romance between detectives, FBI agents, or a mix, with some of the most nauseatingly trite and mechanical sex scenes ever written- not to mention the stereotypic hard nosed, but generous lead detective.

This book is refreshing in that the plot spares us of any of that, even though i couldn't empathize with, or care much about the characters.

But the pace was even, and the plot contained a few surprises. All in all, worth the listen.

I promised myself I would find a really good Harlan Coben after this in order to slog thru to the end on this one. It is just too
sweetly read, like one might read to a child in a bit of a monotone. Although, to be fair, the book doesn't give her many exciting moments to share. save your credit, or maybe even revisit a great listen already in your lib.
