Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

Story
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

I actually really liked this book. The narrator was fantastic. The twist at the end was interesting and well written. It did drag on way too long though. Too many flashbacks and could have been a perfect book if it was a little more succinct in the delivery.

Awful narration but decent story
Reviewed: 12-13-23
Plot left a lot of holes. Zero character development. I couldn’t finish the audiobook due to the truly awful narration. Her male voice was laughable and her female voice was breathy, ditzy, and exaggerated every word. I switched to kindle and did finish but wasn’t overly impressed, I love Kenya so I will buy more books but please vet your narrators better.

My Scottish billionaire boss is arrogant, secretive, demanding, and far too insanely hot for me, his meek assistant, to actually look in the eye. But somehow, I manage to put up with the boss from hell...until I get a terminal cancer diagnosis. Totally valid reason to quit, right? Not for my cruel devil of a boss. You will not believe his response to my resignation...or the secret he's been hiding all along!

I couldn't finish the book and I ALWAYS finish my books. And this was a fairly short read and I still couldn't get through it. It started off promising but the story quickly became disjointed, uninteresting, and senseless. Zero character development in contrast to the story progression. Overall, had a good premise but poorly executed, obviously rushed story.

Surprisingly awful
Reviewed: 01-13-23
I am shocked. Truly. Molly Harper is a fantastic author whose books are filled with humor, mystery, love, and adventure.
Typically.
But this one is god-awful. This book is so mind-numbingly boring, from the uninspired and unoriginal plot to the dull, unlikeable, and completely forgettable characters, finishing this book was almost physically painful. It was like pulling teeth, the story just kept dragging on and on, yet it seemed like the bland main character and her love interest were suddenly in a relationship but they were on their first date? It was confusing, terribly paced, badly written and honestly should fade into obscurity. The reviews saying this was a good book are lying. It's her worst novel yet and is in the running for the worst book I've ever listened to.

Story
I am the type of woman who always plays it safe. In my professional life as a public relations "fixer", and in my personal life, especially when it comes to the opposite sex. Really, who needs the wild highs and the I-want-to-die-because-he-left-me lows of a relationship? At least, that's what I thought...until I met HIM. Damian No-Last-Name-Given is sexy as sin, and I'd developed some kind of weird, instant attraction to him the moment he settled his chiseled body next to mine on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

Referred to women as “Females” so much so that it was off-putting
Reviewed: 09-28-21
I loved the narration. Both narrators did an amazing job and really embodied their characters. I thought the story was cute although extremely predictable. Overall it was a decent slow burn novel. The reason for my rating was the constant reference of women as “female” and men as “male”. The words man and woman or men and women were hardly used and male and female were used in its place. While this may seems like an extremely minor, nitpicking type of thing, it really was jarring to hear such educated and professional adults refer to other humans as male and female. Even when the main characters were in a pseudo relationship, he would still refer to her as a female and she would even refer to herself or other women as females. It was like they were referring to animals or another species. It truly would jar me out of the story every time because it sounded so unnatural coming from the narrators. And the fact that it was soooo overused made it almost hard for me to finish the book. (Yes, it was that bad.) I don’t know the reason behind the creative choice to use that verbiage instead of simply saying men and women, but for me and apparently other readers whose reviews I have read, it would have made this a 4 star review instead of a 2 star review.
All in all, I’d read more of the author’s work because everything else was just fine. Nothing earth shattering, but pleasant. If the next book I read refers to women as females again, I will drop it immediately, though.

Four months of wallowing in embarrassed depression should be enough. I’m beginning to realize that no one is who they seem to be, and my life story might be spinning out of my control. It’s time to take a shower, put on a bra, and wear something other than sweatpants. Difficult, but doable. With my friends - real and imaginary - by my side, I need to edit my life before the elusive darkness comes for all of us.

I gave it shot. Sounded like a great plot from the description. It was just…boring. The dialogue from the characters was great, but the story just didn’t deliver. Narrator was great. It had all the potential to be a great book, but fell flat. Tried to incorporate a mystery element that just didn’t work for the storyline. Story is drawn out WAY too long with very little happening from beginning to conclusion except for realizations from the main character. Overall, after the 3rd hour, listening to the rest just felt like a chore.

Being a hit man has its perks, but I never thought getting an accidental mooning by an attractive PI while he’s caught on a fence would be one of them. While it’s not exactly love at first sight, he’s captured my interest and won’t let go. Suddenly, I find myself caught in a game of cat and mouse, determined to attract the attention of Jackson, the PI who should be my enemy. He pretends like he’s not flattered by my flowers and the mentions of my totally-not-fictitious blow-up doll, Randy (or was it Dandy?), but I know better.

There wasn’t a moment where I was bored. Narration was absolutely captivating. I will be reading all books in this series and may have found a new favorite author!

Story
If you find yourself talking to writer Jayne Dandy, keep the conversation on comic books and Star Wars - best not to mention men, dating, or S-E-X. Her crippling fear of intimacy has made relationships a big no-no, but hiding behind her laptop isn’t going to get her lightsaber lit. When her therapist recommends that she write erotica as a form of exposure therapy, Jayne is hesitant. But when she is unexpectedly downsized at work, she adopts a pseudonym and secretly publishes her sexy stories to make ends meet.

Great premise, badly written...
Reviewed: 04-07-21
It was hard to make it through this one. I’m a self-professed nerd so I was excited for this one! I was expecting a sweet, cute, funny slow burn, but what you get was a whole lot of plot holes, badly written characters, and nonsense. Narrator was great but the story made little sense and after sitting through about 7 hours of this book with little to no story progression and constant whining from the main character, I just couldn’t anymore and switched to another title (and I ALWAYS finish books even if they aren’t great so that’s saying something).
