Story
Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance - and healing - in each other's arms.

Really another sex scene
Reviewed: 09-12-24
I am not a prude, and I don't mind a little spice now and then but this is a 26 hour book and every other chapter is a graphic sex scene. You could easily reduce 10 hours if you cut them in half. It feels like the author wanted to bulk up the book and instead of developing the plot and telling a good story she chatGPTed a bunch of sex scenes and threw them in. After a while it's just repetitive and boring, here we go again... I enjoyed the other books in this series and wanted to finish but clearly the author had fatigue when she wrote this one.

I can appreciate mindless drivel as much as the next person, but this was beyond tolerable. Full of stereotypes, clichés and badly written sex scenes it was a struggle to listen to. The characters lack depth, the story is predictable and all conflicts are resolved with a punch to the face. I thought I would throw-up if she used the term "lady parts" one more time. I bought the book on sale, and its sequel thinking it would be a fun, fluffy romp. It was a waste of money.

Struggle to get through
Reviewed: 07-16-23
I felt the women characters were cliché. The story did nothing for female empowerment. The working mother is portrayed as cold and aloof suggesting it’s not possible to have a vibrant career and be a nurturing mother. The office situation resulted in the woman having to leave and the man getting off free. There are more examples I could give but it would spoil the story.

When Meddelin Chan ends up accidentally killing her blind date, her meddlesome mother calls for her even more meddlesome aunties to help get rid of the body. Unfortunately, a dead body proves to be a lot more challenging to dispose of than one might anticipate, especially when it is inadvertently shipped in a cake cooler to the over-the-top billionaire wedding Meddy, her Ma, and aunties are working at an island resort on the California coastline.

I enjoy a good light hearted romp through fluff as much as anyone else, but this one pushed the boundaries. The aunts were amusing (but overly stereotyped) and Meddy and Nathan were likable. Unfortunately the story line was too ridiculous for me.

Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

I will never eat octopus again. Very tender heart warming story. It’s somewhat predictable but more like the fist sip of a great cup of coffee. You know what to expect and you are happy to take the next sip.

Story
A body always tells a story - but this child’s was a blank page. Rita reached for the lantern. She trained its light on the child’s face. "Who are you?" she murmured, but the face said as little as the rest of her. It was impossible to tell whether, in life, these blunt and unfinished features had borne the imprint of prettiness, timid watchfulness, or sly mischief. If there had once been curiosity or placidity or impatience here, life had not had time to etch it into permanence. Only a very short time ago, the body and soul of this little girl had still been securely attached.

No spoiler alerts here. The language in the book was poetic, and the characters were interesting. The plot line had potential, but the ending left a lot of loose ends dangling. One entire sub-story had no conclusion at all. What happened, is there a sequel on the way? Very unsatisfying!

Story
At the center of Home Again is Madelaine - a brilliant cardiologist, a loving mother, a tender friend, and a woman full of self-doubt. It is also the story of her confused and angry daughter, Lina, and of the two very different men Madelaine loves: Francis, a priest searching for his faith, and Angel, a talented but cynical man with a broken heart. When tragedy suddenly brings them all together, they must learn to forgive the betrayals of the past and find the courage to love again.

Kristin Hannah is one of my favorite authors and I have read and listened to a number of her books. Where Five Winds was an epic and engaging book of some magnitude, this book was a bit of fluff. It was pleasant, a typical boy meets girl story. The story is very predictable and just not all that interesting.

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.
