Story
A commander who bled to defend her people, Ahnna is haunted by two beliefs. The first is that she failed to protect Ithicana from invasion. And the second is that saving her homeland means leaving it behind forever. The Maridrinians left Ithicana in ruins and its people impoverished. So when the wealthy kingdom of Harendell claims her as a bride for its crown prince, Ahnna is prepared to do whatever it takes to gain influence as the future queen. And to control the gold that comes with the throne.

Dime store paper back
Reviewed: 11-03-24
What can I say??? I compare this terrible book to a dime store cheap romance novel (I use that term loosely).
I got as far a 11:12 into chapter 4 when I just couldn't take it any longer.
Maybe I am too critical, maybe not.

I would guess that over half of Skippys dialogue was childish and monotonous chatter. Enough already. I enjoyed the story, but two books is enough. I will not suffer through another.

This book tells the story of the Teams operating out of FOB2 Kontum, near the tri-border area, in 1968-69. From recon missions over the fence to the heroic, and sometimes fatal efforts undertaken to try and rescue missing SOG members, the events are told through the words of the men themselves, supported by previously unreleased official documents.

Lack of preparation
Reviewed: 08-20-24
I’m a Vietnam Vet that fought in many of the locations mentioned and it grinds on me that the narrator was not “coached” in the accuracy of names and locations in Vietnam. Pleiku is pronounced play Koo not Ply koo and Dac To is pronounced Doc Tow not Dack Tow. I doubt the supposed narrator of the actual team member was in fact him. No one in the Army (especially a SF member) would answer a CSM with a “Yes Sir” or refer to his 1911 45 as his “Gun” . I don’t ever recall a AR or CAR -15 called a rifle (but could be wrong) is was always his “Weapon”. Howitzers we’re “Guns”
Lastly The very secret unmarked aircraft were called SPAF’s not SPAZ or Spats. Not until chapter 8 was it referred to correctly. Sneaky Pete Air Force. Someone should have G-2’d the publisher. Just sayin. Otherwise it was a good representation of the brave and professional warriors of SF CIDG and MACSOG . Airborne!

Ending was disappointing
Reviewed: 07-22-24
I enjoyed the first 2 books and this one as well until the end....it just frigging ended.....I thought it must have ended so abruptly to be continued. So far I don't see that is the case. There were just too many key characters that had futures and stories to be unveiled to just end the way it did. It's also confusing because of two trilogies with basically similar titles ie: The First Law Trilogy and The First Law World.

Just the newest Trump and Republican Bashing

I swore I would never purchase another Steven King "political essay" After Billy Summers. We get it you don't like Trump or those who didn't care to be vaccinated, but we buy your books for entrainment not to be lectured. I guess Mr. King has enough money he knowingly insults half of the nation that are conservative's.
He has the freedom to express moral outrage. I ask well ok, and what have you ever done to EARN this wonderful freedom OTHERS such as myself paid in blood and life long disabilities? You were born into it, as were the men and women that paid your admission, but we at least contributed. WE too have a voice and earned it.

come on guys, be honest. This was written and read by a 7th grader about his favorite uncle, Mike.
First chapter this "author" states the the vertical lines in the scope are for windage and the Horizontal for distance. What???
Then he refers several times the NVA soldiers as "Troopers" What?? Troopers primarily come from the word Para (troopers). I was never aware of any NVA paratroopers. The exception were the great solders of the 1st Cav whose rich heritage goes back to the taming of the west where the low ranking Cav solder were referred to as Troopers.
He then goes on to say that when Mike was wounded and in the chopper heading back the medic or crew chief (don't remember which) told Mike he may have his leg amputated. What????That would NEVER happen. Great way to send the guy into shock not to mention just a real irresponsible and stupid thing to tell a guy with a leg wound.
The most annoying was the sing song delivery of either a 12 year old or drunk . I could only take the first chapter before giving up. Almost drove me to writing a country western song...."I'm going to kill myself or go bowling"
.
Did you notice the only review before this one was by the author/reader and gave himself 5 stars in all catogories ? Classy.

I couldn't get past the around 650 AD. The narrator read like he was reading to children that needed whispering for effect. I was continually having to raise the volume when he would lower his voice and then raise it again when he went back to his normal voice. While listening when driving this can be a dangerous maneuver. Audible wouldn't allow me to return because I had ventured too far into the book. Hey Audible you jerks, I gave it a try.
I have been a subscriber to audible since their inception. I am now searching for alternative.

Didn't research automobiles
Reviewed: 02-21-23
There has never been a production Corvette with a backseat. Ford Fiesta wasn't manufactured until 1976. Hot wiring a car in the 50's required more than just touching two wires together.
Not being an engineer I will just have to assume Mr. Follett did a good job researching Space Technology but really dropped the ball with automobiles. All it would have taken was a google search.

Steven King WOKE?
Reviewed: 02-14-23
I kind of enjoyed this book. Being a former E-7 in a Special Ops unit I can relate to the down range stuff and he got it fairly accurate for someone never having to experience the world of REAL HORROR not the Steven King horror.
It's really too bad this will be my last King read. I am a disabled Vet and a Republican. Trump did more for us vets than past administrations and so I was uncomfortable when he felt compelled to take shots at Trump and portray republicans as fanatics.
It really didn't add to the story line. I would venture to say that the majority of his readers are in fact right leaning individuals. We kind of like the weird with a dash of violence and don't go much for the avant garde favored by the "better than you" inteligencia community. I know that the majority of the enlisted warriors I served along side were for the most part right wing thinking. The left wing were the minority and that was just fine with everyone else because we were in the business of killing the enemy, staying alive, and being mission oriented. We didn't have the luxury of sitting in a nice warm home and "cancelling" anyone that didn't share our beliefs. Being "Cancelled" in our line of work meant death and was done with less zeal than the pampered WOKE warriors.
To my knowledge I don't believe I have ever read anything by Mr. King injected with such political ideology. It was just a cheap shot that was entirely unnecessary.

Poor knowledge of NCO leadership
Reviewed: 01-19-23
Although this author had a pretty good sense of military acronyms he obviously didn't get any tutelage in leadership skills. The main character's negativity and belligerence would never have seen him move up through the ranks in a SOG unit. The author in so many words say he "loved to push buttons to all of his platoon". That is so much bull. A leader very seldom or never pushes buttons just because he enjoys the reaction. Just the opposite. There is another book that is spot on describing the relationship between a platoon sergeant and his men. It's called Outlaw Platoon. This platoon leader say's in his narrative that one soldier in his platoon would never be considered for advancement because of his NEGATIVE ATTITUDE as well as his love of PUSHING BUTTONS.
I was an E-7 with a SOG unit and rarely interacted with an NCO with a constant negativity and those E-5's never made it to E-6. Talking about DC comic hero's within a special ops group, are you kidding me. Maybe middle school but not SOG.
Here is another thing of interest. After reading Tier One I started another military fiction, Sons of Valor. Same opening, fire fight on freighter and commander "placing forearms on table" during mission planning. Same poorly G2'd author Brain Andrews.
