Story
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

great story, terrible narrator

I'm actually surprised I finished this audio book, the story is the ONLY thing that kept me listening because the narration was awful. Parts felt like she was reading them for the first time and her voice didn't convey what was going on. The deep breaths, page turning, mic bumps, long puases, running 9ut of air while in the middle of a sentence, inconsistent voices and tones for characters were driving me crazy throughout! really feel like I would have enjoyed this and the first book more if I had just read them.

Story
There was only one reason the bond would choose Emery Montgomery. Her twin was dead. As soon as the silver band of the Culling appeared on her wrist, binding her to the vampire prince himself, her world turned upside down. Forced to compete for the heart of her enemy in an archaic version of The Bachelor, Emery had only three things on her mind: Keep her witch heritage a secret, find her sister's murderer, and above all, don't fall for the sinfully handsome prince.

I loved the story, plot and characters. Lauren's narration was amazing! Simon's was not as amazing sadly.. It was hard to tell what character he was speaking for unless it was a woman's voice he was doing. the spice was great! I enjoyed the book, sans the male narration.
