Story
Bree was hoping for a few days off from dealing with monsters, bad guys, or general weirdness that doesn’t fit into a human box of what is supposed to be real. What she got was a stay in the hospital with an undead roommate and a whole new set of problems that keep rising from the grave. But her love life is at least on track. Until it’s not. And when it goes sideways, it jumps straight into the drink and sinks to the bottom. Now, Bree has to put her heart on the back burner as she is offered a major job hunting down the very person causing all the undead to rise.

Worst female lead ever

Objectively the book was great. I liked the story line, the characters, the narrator was fantastic, the hero was awesome (as an adult- as a kid and a teenager he was a terror.) But the h killed it completely. She couldn’t string a sentence together to save her life when it truly mattered. She would go completely go off topic and ramble in sentences that would just stop halfway through. Instead of “ABCDE” it was “FPABQ” and you’re just sitting there like “What the fuck just happened. Now, don’t let this throw you off the author completely. She normally writes amazing h’s who are smart, funny, independent, and don’t put up with bullshit. But I well and truly hated this woman and wanted to bitch slap her for being selfish, stupid, and inarticulate.

Good but...
Reviewed: 09-21-19
Not as good as some of the rest of the kings series. It wasn’t nearly as dark or brutal as the rest of them. And her handling of the dark stuff is what makes her so damn amazing. She gets dark, and brutal, and scary without making you feel dirty on the inside for reading it. I don’t know how she does it, but she does. She’s one of my all time favorite authors, hands down. This book was good, but it felt much much more tame than the others. It wasn’t her exceptional level of writing at I’m use to. I definitely didn’t feel the tension like I normally do. Don’t get me wrong, some of the stuff talked about was awful, but it was all in the past. Nothing was happening now. It was good though. I’ll still buy all her books.

Ripped out my heart
Reviewed: 09-05-19
If you’re not ok with a book making you sob uncontrollably, do not get this book. It’s such a beautiful story though. The narration was perfect. It will move you to your soul. I fell in love with the characters and desperately wanted so very much for them. I bawled like a baby at the ending of their story. I can’t decide if I want to praise the author for her amazing story, or kick her ass for my broken heart.

I was having a cold coffee with my best friend Vivian when the whole world went upside-down. Now there are gazelle-glowing-like-a-light-bulb aliens running around eating everybody, and enormous dark purply-colored aliens that have a strong resemblance to bats, dive bombing from the sky. One of the bats says I'm his and I need to ease his mating rage. Yeah, not happening.
