There's a reason We Are Legion was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit! Bob Johansson has just sold his software company for a small fortune and is looking forward to a life of leisure. The first item on his to-do list: Spending his newfound windfall. On an urge to splurge, he signs up to have his head cryogenically preserved in case of death. Then he gets himself killed crossing the street. Waking up 117 years later, Bob discovers his mind has been uploaded into a sentient space probe with the ability to replicate itself.

Entertaining, but annoying
Reviewed: 11-08-23
It's a really fun idea, and there's a lot of interesting directions it could go, but some of it just gets to be annoying. Also, what's up with the brazilian? I feel like the author and narrator have never met a brazilian before. The character is portrayed as a cross between inigo montoya and speedy Gonzales. There's plenty of made up nations that would have made a lot more sense, but that's just one of the annoying parts of this book. I think it's still worth reading. It's not as good as it could be, but I will continue the series to see where it goes.

Story
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

A little heavy
Reviewed: 10-25-23
This is a lot better than the movie, it's not as dark. It's still pretty heavy though. Almost an allegory of some diseases. It's not a feel good story, but it feels realistic. I like the character development, but the characters aren't that likable. They're a little pompous, criticizing high writing and classical music pieces. Also a lot of random German and French poetry, in their original languages. Then there's the highclass society loading the values of Marxist philosophy, it's a little sarcastic, but it's slightly obnoxious. The love story is touching and the tine traveling is interesting. I like the different look at time travel, out of control and more of a burden.

The chase for the highly advanced nuclear submarine is on - and there’s only one man who can find her... Well written, not for me.
Reviewed: 10-11-23
I found the story boring. If there was ever a reason to use the word, "Aft", it was used. It was well read, and well written. There wasn't a lot of character development, just some back stories. It felt like a dramatic historical documentary. You really get to understand what it would be like to be on a submarine. The situations and settings were well described. If you want to feel what it would be like to be on a submarine, during the cold war, this book is for you. It's not for me.

Story
Amid the dizzying rides, tantalizing games of chance, and fanciful attractions of a state fair, two teenage sweethearts on the cusp of life and love's pleasures find their way to a shadowy carnival tent brimming with curiosities. There, from the bizarre and enthralling Gypsy Mummy, a mechanized merchant of dreams and prognosticator of tomorrows, the young couple learns what fate promises for them. But fate, for Odd Thomas and Stormy Llewellyn, is something altogether different: full of dark corners, sharp edges, and things no seer or soothsayer could ever anticipate.

I bought this before I noticed the subtitle and immediately tried to return it. Returns only apply to books purchased with credits. I believe this is intentionally misleading. The real Odd Thomas is available for preorder, but if you search Odd Thomas this comes up, without the subtitle.

Story
Frederik Pohl was on a streak when this Hugo Award-finalist novel was published in 1980. Now back in print after an absence of nearly a decade, this unique science fiction novel is as fresh and entertaining as ever. The story begins when the hero of Gateway finances an expedition to a distant alien spaceship that may end famine forever. On the ship, the explorers find a human boy, and evidence that reveals a powerful alien civilization is thriving on a transport ship headed right for Earth....

Good, way better than the first book
Reviewed: 10-09-20
First book kinda sucked. This one was good. Better character development. It started out a little bad, but came around at the end. it veered away from the initial pedophilia it seemed to be leading up to, and I was gonna have to turn it off, if it went any further. But, it took a direction towards scifi instead of grown man fantasies of a 14 year old. This book was sci-fi, unlike the first one. That one was just a terrible story inside of a sci fi setting. This book actually deals with sci-fi themes, time travel, aliens, warmholes, spaceships, telepathy... It still goes into personal emotional struggles, like the first, but significantly more palatable.

The story wasn't good.
Reviewed: 09-22-20
It was very boring, centered around one character who isn't that interesting. Not exactly science fiction, but takes place in a sci-fi setting. An indecisive person who, when he does make decisions, struggles to accept the decisions he has made. There is nothing unique or exceptional about this book. I'm not sure what qualified it to win awards. The narration was very well done.
The book follows a bitter angry man. If you want to capture that feeling of being stuck with a talkative depressed stranger, this is the book for you.

The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.
