Story
Frank, funny and open-hearted, You Never Know is an intimate memoir from one of the most beloved actors of our time, the highly personal story of a remarkable life and thoroughly accidental career. In his own voice and uniquely unpretentious style, the famed actor brings listeners on his uncharted but serendipitous journey to the top in Hollywood, his temptations and distractions, his misfires and mistakes and, over time, his well-earned success.

Sellick is genuine
Reviewed: 11-30-24
The audio version was worth the wait! I’ve been a huge fan of Tom Sellick since the first episode of Magnum. I’ve loved all his subsequent work as well. His voice is half his appeal — although the other half is quite appealing. I got the chance in 2014 to spend the day with Tom on the set while they were filming the dinner scene in Blue Bloods. I met and spoke with a sincere and charming man. This book gives texture and context to the person I’ve admired for over 40 years.

Story
As a panicked world goes into lockdown, Lucy Barton is uprooted from her life in Manhattan and bundled away to a small town in Maine by her ex-husband and on-again, off-again friend, William. For the next several months, it’s just Lucy, William, and their complex past together in a little house nestled against the moody, swirling sea. Rich with empathy and emotion, Lucy by the Sea vividly captures the fear and struggles that come with isolation, as well as the hope, peace, and possibilities that those long, quiet days can inspire.

Self absorbed
Reviewed: 02-15-23
First, the narrator is irritating. The dialog is too detailed and insignificant. Lucy is so self absorbed. I wouldn’t have finished the book except it was our book club selection. I lived through the pandemic in both Florida and NYC. She should get over herself.

When I read Match Up I was excited to discover these collection from Mystery Writers existed. But I’m reluctant to buy more after reading The Mysterious Bookshop.

Story
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Fascinating look into China
Reviewed: 09-23-21
The story of the entrepreneurial growth in China over a couple of decades and the control later imposed by the Communist Government is critical to understanding today’s China. The way the system of influence and bribes was central to growth in the 1990’s and 2000’s is breathtaking. The story bogs down a little in the middle but it’s worth staying with it.
