Dramatization was more like storytelling with background grumbling

Still was a good listen, just wish the ‘background’ actors were more than a rambling of incoherence some of the time. The main actors were very good.

Story
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

I'm no David Goggins, but I can relate.

Being exposed to this hard truth really resonated with me. Goggins took it all the way. I blew my knee out in 2006, and ever since I've been playing it safe both mentally and physically. Coming from being broke as heck and encountering tragedy after tragedy as a young boy and teenager, I had a similar reputation as a mad man who was hell bent on athletic masochism to the nth degree to purge out all the demons. Now I understand more about why I was doing that. Now I understand more about why I have to keep pushing myself harder. I've come close to the peace that goggins talked about at the end of the book. I think this book makes me want to get closer. I also know from this book that the race for that peace never ends, and the way he described that also resonated with me.
If you are a former muscle head like me who is having a hard time adjusting to being normal, this book is for you. if your body is still whole and you still can put out like crazy in the gym, you absolutely need this book. It comes full circle and puts all the bodily psycho punishment in perspective. If you procrastinate and want something to shake the crap out of your ego so you can get motoring, this book is for you.
If you can listen to this book and it doesnt make you reflect on your life and what you have left in the tank, you should check your pulse.

Story
Our ancestors crossed deserts, mountains, and oceans without even a whisper of what anyone today might consider modern technology. Those feats of endurance now seem impossible in an age where we take comfort for granted. But what if we could regain some of our lost evolutionary strength by simulating the environmental conditions of our forbears? Investigative journalist and anthropologist Scott Carney takes up the challenge to find out: Can we hack our bodies and use the environment to stimulate our inner biology?

Be forwarned this book will motivate you to do some physical activity that you wouldn't normally do. Heed all precautions and warnings! I personally enjoyed this book for its dense storyline, it's appeal to science, it's super amped up climactic ending, and its application to my life. I have some unique struggles that I believe the Wilm Hoff method is helping with. Another kudos to the book, the sheer pragmatism of the author is just like mine. Questioning every thing at every turn, being strictly logical yet open to what yeilds results, and cautiously accepting of the possibilities stemming from everything "ice man", the author takes you on a trip you will want to try more than once.
